TalkTalk unsatisfactory, will BB be the same if I change supplier?

I am fed up with TT, phone calls from Africa trying to get personal details, broadband down every Saturday afternoon as well as other times.

I am fed up of talking to machines!

My contract is up soon and Plusnet are offering 18 months, including calls broadband and rental for £25.99 a month.

Will Plusnet use different equipment in the local exchange, or will I still get the crap broadband?

Thanks,

Fortyfoot

  • I obviously don't know about your exchange but I have found Sky and Plusnet much much better than TalkTalk. TT broadband used to drop every night around 10pm but never has with other ISPs.

What have you got to lose by moving?

I was with TT, hated them, didn't move for years because I was constantly told the BB failures where down to the line being old rather than TT. It never got resolved but got progressively worse.

I moved to 02 and didn't have any issues for months! (it had been a daily occurance with TT). I was sad when O2 sold out to Sky (and sold me over to Sky) but equally with Sky there were few if any failures in comparison to TT. Same with PlusNet (whom I moved to next). BT were not so great but did have a better grip on trying to get someone sent out to sort things....and the list goes on.

The difference (I have been told) is not that the different services use different lines -they all still use the same line, but they can flick around with different channel combinations at the exchange and on your PC and this can make all the difference.

It is worth changing. They will use different equipment at the exchange (if you are on TalkTalk LLU, which is likely). They will also have different infrastructure behind that and you will get a new router (the TalkTalk one is a pile of steaming ****).

All in all you should notice a difference. It 'might' not be any better but it will be different.
  • I've just given up on TT for all the reasons given by the OP. Up until this year it was fine, but I've had too many problems of late.

MSE philosophies have taken over my moral compass and I've moved to Sky.

The speed of your broadband can depend on whether your local exchange has LLU equipment installed by your provider.

Plusnet, as part of BT, will definitely have it so your speed will not be any worse.

  • i moved to Plusnet from Virgin.

Not had ADSL for years and was worried about the speed

not sure if this helps but Plusnet are really good - had maybe one disconnection since June

That depends on whether your problem is with the broadband or the WIFI. Lots of people blame WIFI problems on their ISP when in fact it's a problem in their home or nearby.
  • My virginmedia fibre broadband seems to be getting more expensive by the month, but moving back to one of these companies scares the hell outta me.
