Car Leasing - Registered Keeper, whats legal?
Comments
-
My name isn't on my company's insurance details, and nor is any other employee's name on it.
The policy allows anyone employed by the company to drive any vehicles owned or rented by the company as long as they fulfil the criteria laid down by the ins. co.
I'm not named on any DVLA database either in relation to my company car.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Hi All
I've come across this thread while doing some searching as I'm a bit worried about something.
I've been involved in a no fault accident and the car is possibly a write off (awaiting to find out). It's leased from Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
When getting car insurance, I put down Nationwide Vehicle Contracts as the owner and myself as the registered keepers as with previous car leases that was always the way it was. Now I'm realising that:
1) The owner should be Hitatchi Capital
2) The registered keeper should also be Hitachi Capital
I'm not making a claim with my insurer - Due to it being totally no fault, the legal cover provided is processing the claim with the other drivers insurance company directly..
How worried should I be about this? Right now I'm in full panic mode so appreciate any advice here!
Thanks![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

There's no such thing as a "registered owner". You don't know who the ultimate beneficial owner of the car is, and it might even change while you're leasing the car - not that it really matters to you.
The registered keeper is whoever has the V5C. I presume that isn't you.
All you really need to tell the insurer is that it's leased from Nationwide. In the event of a write-off, they'll pay the market value to them. That may leave you with a shortfall for your contractual payments - if you have gap insurance, it'll cover that.0 -

Thanks for the reply. Indeed I don't have the V5C or the logbook (nationwide has that). I assumed I'd be the registered keeper as in all the forms I got I was named as the "registered hirer" or something like that. But now I've seen this thread that suggests Nationwide are the registered keeper.
I'm currently panicking because this accident is a serious one, and while I'm 100% at no fault (with dashcam footage) and not going through my own insurance company, I'm worried this could have some form of impact.
Sounds like the owner being Nationwide (and not the finance company) isn't going to be an issue though? Thanks for clarifying that![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I know this is a long shot in receiving a reply as I am about a year late to this, however im in the same predicament of the registered keeper being myself on the insurance however on the V5 of my leased car the lease companies name is stated, therefore they are seen as the registered keeper.
what ended up happening with yourself?0 -

I too have a lease car via Nationwide. My understanding is that the register keeper and the owner are funder Leaseplan
I had a no fault accident which the dishonest other side initilly denied liability so I Claimed off my insurers until a solicitior changed their mind and to my horror found that I was listed as the keeper
Axa were however not in the slightest bit concerned and never asked for the V5 at all
I do not imagine that there will be any issue for you at all if it is clear who owns the car.
