Fibre to Fibre transfer

Hi guys
Apologies if this is really obvious. I am currently with Virgin Media on fibre optic broadband and want to switch to either BT or Sky, again for fibre optic.
I know that when I used to transfer between non-fibre providers the new provider managed the switch. Ofcom and other info says if you're going to/from a fibre/cable provider this isn't the case and you need to contact both - but doesn't say whether this is also true if you're going fibre-fibre.
Can anyone clarify? And, if I need to contact both, does anyone have any tips on how best to align the dates?
Thanks!

You will need to contact both, as you're going from cable (Virgin) to FTTC.
Personally, I would make sure the replacement service is installed and working before giving notice of cancellation to Virgin, but you can cancel sooner if you want to save money.0 -
As you will presumably be keeping your phone number when you switch then the new company will advise Virgin . When I switched Virgin were on the phone attempting to bribe me to stay as soon as they got the notification from Sky. Personally I'd wait til the new order is confirmed and just call Virgin to confirm they have the cancellation (assuming they didn't call you first from retentions)
Fibre is no different to standard BB the processes are exactly the same.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Virgin will cancel the phone service if the number is transferred, but won't cancel any broadband or TV service. The OP will need to call and specifically cancel those.0 -
I think you need to give VM 30 days notice.
So I guess you sign up to the new provider, wait a few days/get an install date. Then give VM notice.
You can always cancel the VM cancellation should things not work0
