Your mistake was trusting the salesman to not screw you over, because that's what so many of them are keen to do nowadays. There should be more public investigations in to some of the players in this industry, even with to programs - trial by media, it gets results and gets people attention.

In future assume everything your being told is a lie unless on paper.

This is one of the problems with commission led pay packets. A basic pay topped up with payments for getting the sale, usual a tier based system pushing salesman to get every sale irrespective of the consequences.

There are 12000 excess miles (24k actual - 2x6k allowance) that are costing £1000.

If there had been only 4000 excess miles (with a 10k pa contract) you would have an excess mileage bill of 1000 x (4/12) = £333.

That leaves £667 to cover the increased monthly payments.

    667/24 = c £28.

So if the monthly payments for a 10k pa contract were less than £28 per month more than for the 6k contract then you have lost out.

I suspect you actually haven't lost out by terribly much.

To be fair you're over the 10k mileage limit by 4k total anyway.

To more than double the mileage you signed for, yes i know it's as much their fault for a mistake (deliberate or not) as yours for not checking when signing, but at just over £1000 for doubling the mileage you signed for isn't the end of the world.

I doubt you are more than £300 out from the difference between the two mileage limits, plus 4000 miles over to add.

Could have been a lot worse.

@Rain Shadow - OP says "more than £1000" but not how much more.

But yes ... you've elucidated in numbers what I hinted at in post #10 :)

Indeed he does but, as it was the only number we have, I took the view that if it was much more he might have said 'more than £1100' for instance.

I thought it was worthwhile to quantify what I asked in #4 and #6. :)

I wonder if we will get an answer from the OP?

ETA: I think my original calc was wrong so I've rejigged it.:rotfl:

    Depends on whether #4 + #6 = #10.;)
