He said it was an FCA requirement that they had to offer gap insurance, alloy wheel and paintwork insurance. We let him finish then told him to go whistle... Anyone else trying the same sales pitch won't get a minute of my time... We don't need finance or insurance when buying a car or a phone.
If enough customers challenge the jobsworths, they might get the message.
We do, or at least the sales staff have to document that they have offered & explained Gap insurance & the customer has to sign a document to say that theyve had it explained & whether they have taken it out or not...Dwy galon, un dyhead,

But why do you have to do that? If you use a car wash at a garage they don't ask you to fill in a form saying they've explained that you could have bought petrol but have declined to do so.
The question is whether the customer is obliged to listen to the spiel and sign to decline or whether the sales staff are being deliberately deceptive. The statement from CW HQ would seem to indicate the latter.0 -

We didn't sign anything and won't. It's total bull and nothing to do with making a purchase, what difference does it make if I spend £20k cash on a car, or £500 on a TV/phone/washing machine? The law doesn't require the seller to offer insurance!0 -
That does look promising, thanks! Anyone got a deal from mobilephonesdirect through Money Supermarket? Seems too cheap to be true.0 -
Why on earth would you go via them??0

Why, do you have a reason for not doing so? The reason to do so would be that it's much cheaper than Carphone Warehouse.0

Sadly too many sales people think it's their right to flog this stuff, I guess there are some who fall for it, it's how they make their money. Just hope enough of them get recorded and put on YouTube.
Majority of the time it will be the company requiring that scripts are followed and employees will be challenged/sacked for following process. Definitely should not have brought the law in to it but wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a company/managers direction that all customers must be offered insurance/accessories/whatever else. Complaining to HQ is definitely the best thing to do - they probably won't do anything but enough feedback on how they're infuriating their customers they might justYes Your Dukeiness0 -
I had the same bull in devizes this year .0

Money Supermarket won't be cheaper than other ways to access the same (and quite possibly better) deals - then you earn cashback for ordering via a cashback site instead of donating it to them.0
