ok waited for my contract to end and the price of the next LG G series has gone up from £19p/m with vr headset in July to £23p/m with nothing.
plus when I took my G3 2 years ago I paid £17.5 p/m with cashback.
last time I looked my wages hadn't gone up by more than about 0.5%.
is this the Brexit Tax? (excuse companies are using to increase profits)
noticed on a PC graphics card same issue US $250 UK £250. as part of the new trade agreements are we going to get proper prices?

Pay up or shut up. We live in the real world and you have the lucxury of a free country where you can choose.0

I've seen the dollar/pound equality for years on various things like tech & books among other things.
I think maybe the freebies with the LG G5 were a launch offer - I got the camera attachment but don't seem to be any around at the moment, but I have one, so have stopped looking!
I found mine cheaper to buy upfront at Very with 20% new customer discount, if you have the funds available.0 -
The new Google Nexus /Pixel 5 will be announced early next month and I think LG will be hard pushed to compete against it at current prices.
Promotions come and go but you need to be prepared to switch at short notice to get the best deals.
You don't say what your requirements are in terms of data, minutes etc so it's hard to say whether the deal you mentioned was extremely good or not. I always buy an unlocked sim free phone and get a separate deal for data and minutes but that's a personal preference that doesn't suit everybody.0 -
thanks for the more useful posts. to the others:
1) upskill, yeah right I live in Lincolnshire. the best paid jobs here are BTL and farming.
2) if we sit back and put up with this dollar disparity we would still have the car dealers fleecing us for thousands over the euro dealers. its all about campaigning and bringing to light these cons. which magazine, who also helped bring car prices inline with Europe, said recently that tech is still disproportionally cheaper in the US even when adding import duty. the difference is the Yanks will only pay X for something.
as far a my contract I generally buy from Mobiles direct as they are unlocked. I generally get the cheapest with the highest cashback as my wife uses the sim and doesn't need loads of minutes. I'm fairly good at remembering when to claim the cashback so has been a win win for me, up until now.0 -
The cheapest with the highest cashback would be a lot less than £17.50 a month - then it would have been free. In fact, the cheapest contract right now is free -with a small profit.
Since you are not only ignoring the change in the currency and inflation, higher specs and a number of other things also ignoring the changes in cashback over the last two years is the icing on the cake.
The only people who get "fleeced" with my contracts are the dealers.0 -
I could understand maybe an increase to £19 as I pointed out the phone with a VR headset was at this in July, after the currency swindle of Brexit, but £23-24 in the space of a month with next to no cashback deals and no freebies? not that I'm bothered that much about the freebies.
my point is I normally use the redemption system to get a flagship phone for virtually what it would cost sim free, with the airtime being next to no cost.
what I'm wondering is if the operators are increasing prices because of greater regulation or pressure to drop roaming charges etc. because then it would make sense that they are trying to pass on the loss in profit.0 -
Cashback deals are nothing to do with the networks. Most dealers now have either disappeared or stopped doing anything worthwhile. Brexit is also your definition of a swindle - not the majority of people who voted for it with their eyes open. Many companies who sell abroad will find a reduction in the currency a godsend - as will their employees. In any case, that is neither determined by the networks or the dealers.0

Actually, I think the contract phone market is a bit weird at the moment. I'm watching the likes of ee, carphone warehouse and Tesco for Galaxy 7 and iPhone 6s prices.
Tesco have just changed the deals for the 6s phones but the phone prices remain as they were pre iphone 7 release (didn't they reduce the iPhone 6 price at the same time).
I'm guessing that retailers are getting ready for Christmas offers.... of course I'm guessing. I could be completely wrong.0
