Windows 10 updates - not getting any?

  • This mini laptop (essentially a tablet with an attached keyboard) got the anniversary update when I went home last week and connected to the home wifi. On the mobile wifi hotspot (set as metered) I use away from home I get the option to force updates to download.

As an aside - It only has a 32GB C: drive and the update left it perilously short on space but disk cleanup of system files and deleting old operating systems (presumably Win 10 1511) has left it healthy again. I keep all my data on SD.

My desktop 128GB SSD C: drive with the old mechanical drive as D: is on 24x7 doesn't show any available updates and is still on 1511. I thought it was maybe because that has the Pro rather than Home version but maybe it's just rationing or incompatible.

Apart from a slight change to the start menu I don't see any obvious difference with 1607 - I did see a sizeable list of changes but not one was of any interest to me. I'm just hoping they don't do something to it in the future that I can't live with.

I have Win 10 Pro and the only big difference I noticed was when on resuming from hibernation the "lock screen" shows and you can't easily disable it like you could on 1511. You can still do it, but you have to go through the Local Security Policy to do so.

...you're probably up to date then!

You can manually check if there are good Windows updates available using Wsus Offline update. But other than that, Windows update agent will usually let you know when they are available if they are not autoinstall updates.

As its set to metered wifi, will it not get any important updates either. I can live without the Anniversary one, I've heard complaints about it so don't particularly want it but will it not get any security update either?
