Hi
I have been researching a long haul flight for myself and my husband, he is disabled with various medical problems including back and leg problems and I am classed as morbidly obese.
I have found flights I think he'll be able to cope with through Air Canada whose policy states that an extra seat can be allocated free of charge for disabled or obese passengers with medical evidence but I can't find out what sort of evidence would be acceptable.
An extra seat would make the journey so much more comfortable for my husband so I need to look into this.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Contact air Canada and find out what their terms are, I thought most airline policy would be to charge for an additional seat, even so you probably need to determine how this could be done, as simply buying an extra seat wouldn't work as the lack of someone travelling could mean that they'll cancel the booking.0

Looks like that is only available if travel is completed by 1st November.
Hadn't heard of seat plus before0 -
Sorry, but I can't see any reason why an obese person should have an extra seat free.
The rest of us will pay for it.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

............ and how exactly will it affect you if someone does get an extra seat?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
The op had come here for help , not judgement.
I don't personally suffer any of those conditions, but you never know what life is going to throw at you.0 -
Lots of airlines will allow you to buy a second seat, there are a lot of reasons why someone would want a spare - large musical instruments, wedding dresses etc - generally you would pay for the seat but not be charged taxes on the spare seat as taxes are on a per person basis.
You probably need to consider whether 2 economy seats would be more comfortable than 1 business seat. Consider that the increased leg room on a business seat and the ability of the seat to lie flat (bed shape) vs only a certain amount of extra width over economy.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
