Screwed up my copy of W7 now. Duh!!

    You pal was most likely talking about a volume license key.
    Once microsoft get wind that that key is being misused, they mark it as a "leaked" key and it will show as unlicenced copy.

    I assume that you are having problems but I fear my Windows 7 is about to lock me out soon and a replacement copy would be nice.

    Take a look on Google on how to reset to Trial Mode or to rearm Trial Mode and I'll take a look at fixing your problem with activation when I'm back from hols next week. Trial Mode and rearming is legitimate enough and will keep you going until I'm back.
    Post exact details of the make and model of your machine.
