Following on from yesterdays saga where a mate was unable to install W7 on his pc I told him to pop round here with his disc and I will see what I can do.
He turned up pc in boot but no disc.
So I obliged with my copy.
Hes fine now. Up & running without an issue
BUT!
NOW I am getting a pop-up telling me my copy isn't genuine (After using it for about 3 yrs)
My copy came with SH machine.
So am I screwed or is there a get round?
APART from forking out for a new op sys, that is.

Well, if you used your licence key, then it can typically only be active on one computer at a time.
So the question is how good a mate is he?
(And did he have his own licence key - sometimes there's a sticker on the computer somewhere.)0 -
No.
He was borrowing a multi user copy as his system was originaly Vista"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
What do you mean a multi-user copy? It's not clear what license you have for your machine and what one your friend has used for his.0

Take back your serial key and reactivate your machine. Get him to pay for the other.machine or one of the posters here is giving out Win7 licence keys if you ask him nicely.0

He didn't install correctly so I installed his machine using my key (I thought you were allowed to install it on 2 machines in the same house)
Looks like when he got home the newer install was picked up by Microsoft and the older one is no longer welcome."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -

Microsoft Office licenses allow for 2 machines, 1 desktop and 1 laptop I believe.0 -

Let me correct something for you:
"never been the case with windows operating systems"
You can install Linux or certain other OS's as may times as you like for no cost with no licence DRM to worry about.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
So, Does anyone have a solution to my existing problem at all?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0
