Travel Insurance: Who should pay?

I paid for a holiday for the family, 6 of us in total. I paid flights separate to the Villa. My son and gf were staying for 3 nights, daughter and bf for 7 nights and me and the wife for 14 nights.
On the morning of departure I was taken ill so none of us traveled. When I spoke to my travel insurance they said I could only claim for myself and wife and the others would have to claim on their own insurances. Surely as I paid for everything should I be the one to claim for everything? (hope that makes sense) Thanks

Who insured the other members of your party?
I agree with the insurer: they cover you, not other people.0 -
We have done similar for the last 2 years, rented a villa and invited our adult children and partners to join us. Our insurance covered the Villa and our own transport costs, but the others needed their own insurance to cover their flights, which they arranged themselves.
Your insurance should pay the villa and your own flights, but the others need to claim on their own insurance regardless who actually paid for the flights.0 -

I was just wondering because the other members of the party paid nothing at all to the holiday, I paid for everything. The others do have their own insurance but how can you claim for something you haven't paid for?0 -
Although they paid nothing they have flights booked in their name. Whether their insurers will pay out or not will depend on the t&c of their own policies, but they can at least try.
With hindsight it would have been better to take out group insurance for this trip.0 -

Never thought of group insurance, next time! Thanks0 -
So they claim on their insurances for their lost flights and then pay you back. It's family so not that complicated (assuming they have insurance)
Insurance covers the named person not the holiday components .Hopefully as you paid for everything else they did take out insurance though.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

How feeble is your family.
How about they continued on whilst you got over the sniffles and joined them later?
Insurer is right.0 -

That was uncalled for, no one cancels a holiday at the last minute because of a minor illness.0 -

The insurer may or may not be right, but the OP did not deserve such a stupid response.
Earlier this year, I had a hoarse voice and a few 'sniffles' before a trip to Malaysia, I decided to travel regardless as I thought it was just some minor infection, but things got worse while I was away.
Luckily no medical assistance was needed during my trip, and I went to the doctors on my return and after a few investigations, i was diagnosed with cancer.
Caught early and treated, now I am back to my travels.
The OP was absolutely right not to travel when unwell - you can do that another day when you are feeling better which was certainly a lesson I learnt.0
