The AA take approx £130-£140 off every customer for a years cover. This 'member' called them out for a problem. They fixed the car and charged her for it. She then broke down with the same problem 3 hours later. She is obviously not happy. A good company would say that in recognition of the fact that she had been inconvenienced they would refund the £57. The only possible reason that people use the AA is because of brand loyalty. The AA know this themselves. If you have a brand most companies would pay a few pounds to try and protect it.

Why are so many people so stupid?

It's obviously arguable how much branding is worth in most scenarios, it can be an indication of quality or high service or be pretty meaningless.

However the aa had many decades of being a member owned organisation, and has recently been sold out to private equity and flipped a couple of times whilst they look for a fast buck, people should vote with their feet or suffer the consequences.
