Do You Eat More Red Meat Or White Meat?

Options
Hi Guys

Just curiosity really.

Have been reading through all the meal plans and notice that many people have 2-4 portions of red meat each week. We personally only have red meat occasionally as we like chicken and fish. We also have lamb 1-2 times a week-is that counted as red meat?

So whats your percentage of poulty, white meat, pork, lamb and beef that you consume and what sways you to buy this?

With us, it is mainly the costing of the meat that sways us to what we eat. If we can find good quality meat yellow stickered then we will buy it. We love a good steak but the price of this we can do 2 meals etc.

Just being nosey:D

until i was preg and now can't stand the smell or texture of beef. we would have roast beef on a sunday. and chicken and pork maybe 2 or 3 times.

i struggle to feed fish to rest of family. i love fish pie. but they will onyl eat fish fingers and not even home made ones.

can't stand lamb , well love the smell but just don't like it. how odd is that.

havent bought steak in ages. well not for me. hubby loves it. i'm fussy and only really like fillet. hence why i not had it. lol

I think the only red meat we have is minced beef in spag bog. We eat mostly chicken breasts or diced turkey in curries (as turkey is cheaper). Even when we have a roast on a sunday, we tend to have chicken (only because it seems to be the only meat we all agree on).

I think we should really have a least one more portion of red meat a week for the iron content, but never mind.

i certainly eat more white meat than red, i find chicken more economical as i can make stock from the bones
  • I don't like to eat chicken that isn't free range, so we don't eat chicken that often, maybe once a fortnight unless I can pick up on offer breasts or legs. We have fish once a week, red meat probably 3-4 times a week but this might include using bacon in an otherwise veg pasta bake. Pork is classed as red meat also, but we don't tend to eat much pork except occasional sausages, generally mince, lamb, brisket and steak if it has a yellow label on. We used to eat much healthier before we had our son, aged 7 now, but he loves meat and refuses to eat lentils, pulses etc which used to be our main diet. I'm gradually introducing them into meals such as chilli or soup hoping we can move over to eating more veg meals.

I wish I could reconcile our need to eat on a tiny budget with eating non free range chicken but I struggle knowing the conditions some are kept in. If I do buy ordinary chicken I avoid supermarkets and go to a butchers thinking somehow they have a better life!!

    Hi there

    Chicken :D .... i love it mmmm

We are having quite a bit of pork at the moment, so quite a bit of red at the moment (as its to economical to miss), but as much as i used to love beef, i really find it heavy to digest, so we dont have it very often......I adore lamb, but out here its not very popular-so difficult to get hold of...going to give mutton a go though-supposed to be tastier anyway. we do eat a lot of chicken too -and i tend to have salmon at lunchtimes, or when i do hubby chilli as he isnt a fan of it, and im not a fan of chilli:D

We eat more veggie and fish than anything else, but occasionally we'll have lamb or beef (maybe once a week). I'm not so keen on chicken and tend to use Quorn instead.
  • we tend to eat more chicken than red meat, but love lamb, and try to eat 2 veggie meals a week. we rarely have beef.

We tend to eat meat 4/5 times a week. I try to do a veggie meal once a week (usually tofu or just vegetables). We'll have an oily fish once a week too, then also maybe something like smoked mackerel in kedgeree or tinned tuna in a bake or something.
But although we eat meat quite frequently we don't eat a lot of meat in the meal. We buy organic meat so it's too expensive to have a lot. I'll make a chicken last us three meals and any other joint two meals. There are 5 of us.

I would eat Chicken every day of the week if I could :D , but occasionally eat mince, beef and pork depending on if there is a good deal on, or if its in the bargain bin. :A
