  • Mmmm, didn't want to wake up too those last replies! Lol. Well my appointment is at 8:30, heading off there now I'm going to tell them I have a budget and will need quotes on any work before it's done. But to be honest I desperately need it sorted as I can't do without the car.

    Fingers crossed.

This isn't what you'll want to hear, but this is ENTIRELY down to poor maintenance. If it'd been being maintained properly, you'd have had prior warning that the rear shoes were getting low, and they'd have been changed before they wore out and ruined the drums.
  • Yeah you were all right, National tyres wanted £550 for calipers, 4 x discs and all round pads. That was with £120 knocked off if I had it all done at once.

Went to Mr clutch, discs fine but no room to fit me in until Tuesday.

So been and bought the brake pads from euro parts (£20) and just had a mechanic fit them (£40), he says the discs are fine to keep but the one that was grinding was a bit stuck.

Poor maintenance as in what? It's had it's MOT and a service within the past 4 months. I check my tyres and fluids often, I'm anything but an expert so if there is something I'm meant to do to the brakes to help upkeep then let me know.

Clearly whoever did that service didn't take the rear drums off to check on the condition of the shoes. I'd also wonder when the fluid was last changed.
  • £63 into £550 - Usual fast fit tactics

Good to hear you got it sorted for a fraction of the price.
