QoC I knew NBT had issues re: Southmead but I didn't know it was that bad. I guess it's pointless going? I know of an agency who have medical clerks with ongoing temp assignments around that area, but I missed out on that as it was filled. They want me to register on Tuesday, but I think it's another agency that comes to nothing.

I have a lot of admin experience - reception work, dealing with the public face to face and over the phone etc. I had a three year gap caring full-time for my partner until his death, and two temp jobs that didn't really come to anything. As for the apprenticeship is 32 too old for one?

I just want to be out earning - sick of signing on every two weeks and the Nazi's G4S aka Theresa May's secret police hearding you.

Pamela Neave on the centre deal with agency staffing for UHB.

NBT are in special financial measures. They are in very dire poop

It'll help if you have a good and accurate typing speed - and maybe brush up on some medical terminology too. It'll all help :)

Cheers for this qoc :) I'll pop in on Tuesday, and send my CV in. I'm good at that, though medical terminology (I've got a busy weekend) I'll swot at.

Please take five minutes to understand the Nazi regime and then compare to your experiences at the Jobcentre.

I'm beginning to understand why employers are not taking to you.

My bother had a mild stroke three years ago. He was signed on before he had the stroke, had so much hassle from the Job Centre during this time. When he was officially signed off by the GP as fit he never went back to them because of the treatment he got.

He said he would rather be poor than treated like sh*t.

The Job Centre is now centered around you getting off their books as soon as possible by anyway they can.

  • OP sorry to hear about your partner, this is going to sound odd but if you can manage to mention it at interview (and you may have to anyhow to explain gap in employment) then it could help. We are always looking for people who understand what it's like to be a patient or carer, even in non-patient facing roles, because they get the importance of what the NHS does. In admin it's crucial particularly things like reception.

Can we assume he wasn't herded onto a train and led to the gas chambers?

I'm not suggesting attending the Jobcentre is a pleasurable experience, but any comparison to the Nazi regime is downright ignorance.

Definitely not pointless going. If it's anything like where I work management have to jump through hoops to get the authority to recruit (and we're not in special financial measures). If nothing else it's good interview experience - you might even get the job!

Better pay for low skilled work than non NHS? Pension benefits? Incremental pay? Generous holiday leave allowance, full sick pay... It's not all bad.
  • I do wonder how much longer we will have an NHS with full sick pay and pension for staff...the new idea seems to be to have social enterprises running community services and "Virgin Healthcare".

Yes plus I can see our sick pay entitlements being changed over time, which I generally agree with although I have dealt with staff having life changing illnesses which need a long period of time to recover from and who have survived on the full/half pay.

Pensions have been changed already to average salary but can see more and more changes on the horizon
  • The NHS is an awful company to work for please for god's sake, if you are successful, don't stay for long.
That place is the most demoralising, unproffesional, bureaucratic dump I've ever worked in.
The managers are significantly underqualified and, it seems, as long as you know someone who works in a particular department, you will get the job no matter how many more efficient and qualified people are against you.
So it's easy to work your way up if you don't care about patient safety or have any morals.

Before working here I had barely had a sick day, and a couple of years in I had a breakdown and was off sick for 6 months. Yes, I was a higher band than band 2, but some would say it's worse, in some respects, as a band 2.
Trust me you don't want to work here.
Leaving this place was the best thing I've ever done.

Sorry for the negative rant I just would hate for someone to go through what so many NHS workers go through!
