Thanks everyone for your answers. I do have a bank interview lined up for Tuesday at another hospital but I feel like non attending as I just know it won't be successful. The thing is some trusts will be busy than others - ours is in Bristol and there is fewer people than London.
I'm just getting frustrated. Six months of unemployment and nothing. I'm fed up of going to agencies to register and nothing off them, I'm fed up of losing out in interviews in almost every possible circumstance there is.
As for a professional qualification in Admin, I can't afford it to go to college thanks to our horrible government.
Perhaps I should just take anything (e.g kitchen work, bar work) for the time being to fund my move?0 -
Very good point. I've worked at the NHS as a back office contractor on 3 occassions over the last 10 years. The amount of bureaucracy and waste is shocking. I personally would never apply to work in a permant role in the NHS, it is such a sad and demoralising place to work.
In some NHS offices I would wholeheartedly agree, however where I am now (a central London NHS office) I would say the opposite is true.
I got in to the NHS through temping in various roles for a few years before applying for a role when it became permanent. Once I was in I went from a Band 2 to a Band 5 in a year.
Many people applying for Band 2/3 jobs won't have any qualifications so an NHS job is more attractive than an equivalent position in the private sector in regards to employee benefits. For that reason there will be a lot of competition - more so outside London I guess where there are fewer jobs.
To Predaleko1984 I would agree with the advice above and try to join the hospital bank. Make as many contacts as possible, be friendly, work hard and people will remember you when permanent vacancies come up.0 -

It's worth pointing out that the NHS is a collection of many different organisations. Some are horrible to work for, some are fantastic. Some are even quite efficient! Make sure you find out about the specific bit you're applying to and don't worry too much about the experiences of people who've worked in other areas.0 -
You should still go as it's building interview experience. As I say I didn't have experience in admin and I got this job. Have you looked at vision to learn coursesMortgage free wannabe

Phone up the hospital HR departments and ask them which temp agencies they use to fill temp vacancies.
Then make sure you're on the books of those agencies and hassle them for work .... then you'll get some NHS experience.0 -

Do go to that job interview!
You don't know that it could be the job that gets you on the road to where you want to go.
I nearly didn't go to a job interview once, basically with the same view as you 'why bother, I won't get it'. After a talk to myself I went along to the interview.
Somehow I impressed the interviewer and got the job!
This job lead me into a very interesting career and I ended up over the years in a highly paid position.
All I'm saying you do not know that the next interview you go to will be the one that gets you where you want to be.The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -

It certainly won't be successful if you don't go!0 -
Worth remembering that a lot of the 'waste' in the public sector is down to rules from the various ministers.0

Well I'm going to give it a go on Tuesday, and I am researching which agencies work within the NHS so I can badger them, instead of the dumb false lead interviews which are registration and posting jobs you need a degree in.
In a "smaller" trust, how realiable is Bank work? Is it like assingments in days or weeks or months? I just want to speed this move up to the North of our region.0 -

Define smaller? - which trust is it?
I disagree with you totally about these interviews being false leads. Of course your going to take the most experienced suitable person 9/10 times. But sometimes there are people who bring different skills to a role0
