Had NHS Interview - unsuccessful Is it really that hard to get in the NHS + find work

Define smaller? - which trust is it?
I disagree with you totally about these interviews being false leads. Of course your going to take the most experienced suitable person 9/10 times. But sometimes there are people who bring different skills to a role
What I meant by false leads is, the stupid agency registration ones. I've had a phonecall for a possible permanent job near where I want to move to.
It's Bristol / North Bristol.0 -
You can also look into signing up with NHS Professionals - they offer staff bank services to a number of NHS Trusts across the country and they almost always have Band 3 admin jobs going (as long as you're relatively flexible with location).0

What job and band are you going for? How much experience of the job do you have in another sector. Can you apply that experience to what you can sell as an asset for the job you apply. Of course people already working for the NHS are going to have a better chance, just like someone whose work for the NHS for years is going to find it hard to get a job in a hotel where they will favour applicants who have experience working for a hotel.
Somehow you need to sell yourself in a way that you can convince them that you know a lot about the NHS already even if you've never worked there (so do a lot of research before) and that the skills you have gained make you a better candidate than internal ones.
You are acting all defeated but how do you think the other applicants who have NHS experience feel? They can't even blame it on their lack of NHS experience.0 -
I work for the NHS albeit in a clinical role, my department recently advertised for a ward clerk and had circa 100 applicants, so you will be up against it. I don't know if this is suitable/relevant for you, but have you thought about the NHS apprenticeship schemes?
On a different note I have worked for several trusts both large and small on the staff bank in a variety of roles and their has never been a shortage of work.
Good luck!0 -
NBT are in financial ruin. Bank staff are being gotten rid of pretty ruthlessly. The morale of pretty much all staff at NBT is lower than rock bottom. I would really advise that you don't. However, UHB are much more financially stable (as much as they can be, anyway!) and staff are generally happier. They also have more hospitals, meaning that you could do bank work at any of the five.
I work at another hospital and we are looking for a bank sec, but it is only for holiday/sickness cover so wouldn't be guaranteed work or as much as you'd get at UHB. But, it's one way of getting experience. QoC I knew NBT had issues re: Southmead but I didn't know it was that bad. I guess it's pointless going? I know of an agency who have medical clerks with ongoing temp assignments around that area, but I missed out on that as it was filled. They want me to register on Tuesday, but I think it's another agency that comes to nothing.
I have a lot of admin experience - reception work, dealing with the public face to face and over the phone etc. I had a three year gap caring full-time for my partner until his death, and two temp jobs that didn't really come to anything. As for the apprenticeship is 32 too old for one?
I just want to be out earning - sick of signing on every two weeks and the Nazi's G4S aka Theresa May's secret police hearding you.0 -

Please take five minutes to understand the Nazi regime and then compare to your experiences at the Jobcentre.
I'm beginning to understand why employers are not taking to you.0 -
Well, the new term's just started, what course(s) have you enrolled on to improve your prospects?0

I thought you have to pay to enrol on course now? I thought they were scrapping the Adult Learner Loan or what its called?0

It depends what level you're going to study, also there may concessions for disabled students like you as well.
Let's face it, your situation hasn't improved much in the last 18 months and you're the only person who can improve it.
