Live maggot in my sandwich.

Ick....yuck. Can't stop vomiting. Sandwich from Tesco for lunch, took one bite + then I opened it up (I always do) to check the insides, clear as anything a maggot crawling all over the chicken.

Ughhh, I can't stop thinking about it. So glad I didn't eat any extra of it.

I understand caterpillars in spinach or the odd dead fly on a lettuce, but maggots? Live maggots? That must be a huge quality control thing, surely? Is this a common thing? I always check for bugs but it's the first time I've ever found one alive. Put me off for life.

Please guys, check your food first. :(:(

  • You always check your sandwiches after one bite?

I'd say it's not that common. Probably way less than half of all the sandwiches you've eaten have had maggots in them.

It would have been worse if it was half a maggot!
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Or maybe there was a family of maggots and now only one survivor #wontsomeonethinkofthemaggots

Haha. No usually before I even think about eating it. But today I was just hungry. Bit it, checked it, spat it out. Lovely.

    It wasn't even dead.

I thought maggots generally only went to rotting things, the sandwich was in date.

I've not eaten supermarket pre-packed sandwiches since the news item, that said one of the large scale sandwich producers for the supermarkets, had decided that it was more hygienic for staff to prepare using bare hands instead of wearing protective gloves.

How many operatives really do wash their hands after a quick toilet break ?

  • I remember trying maggots, crickets and some other 'delicacies' on my travels - generally disgusting, but still edible.

I work in the food industry. It is gross misconduct to not wash your hands after going to the toilet it would be instant dismissal. When you open the main exit door from the toilets you automatically get anti bacterial gel on your hands. Even if someone did get away with both of the above there is no way they would get to the production area without hand washing, They have to go though a barrier and that barrier only opens when they put their hands into a hole that sprays soap.
