How far in advance do the train companies release the discounted train tickets?
Would like to visit Bath in December (midweek - and a set date). Trains are currently showing as £134.

Hi,
I think it's 12 weeks before travel, so should be showing soon, just need to keep checking.0 -
Approx. 12 weeks before travel.
Split the journey, where are you travelling from?0 -
12 to 26 weeks depending on operator and journey.
GWR aren't as open as Virgin with info. |Virgin are currently advising:
"All tickets are currently available up until :
Friday 09 December 2016"0 -
Thanks everyone I will keep an eye open for reduced fares over the next week or so and then will need to book something. If the Bath tickets are still around £130 I will book something else a day out in Dublin or somewhere is currently looking a lot cheaper door to door and quicker.0

Look at prices for mid November as these will be in the 12 week window so you'll get an idea of advance fare prices.
As others have said consider split tickets to reduce fares.0 -
Is that from London? If so I can recommend National Express coaches, they're not that much slower from Bath than the trains, and a lot cheaper. I went to visit there and decided the cheapest way was an advance ticket to there and the bus back.
Good luck with the advance tickets. I love getting 1st class advanced tickets if they're a good price!0 -
Off peak returns are now showing up to 15 December - starting at £71.20. Can be bought on the day
Not sure where £134 comes from0 -

Thanks for the message, unfortunately I live in a small town in West Lancashire so nearest main line train stations would be Preston, Liverpool, Manchester and possibly Wigan.
The buses are cheaper but not really doable for a day trip from my location0 -

That was a day ticket on the day I can travel from Liverpool and Manchester. Looking at mid november as 12 weeks prices drop to £76 cheapest return but that isnt a day return as I would get home the following morning0
