Shearings & Savoy Bournemouth.

Options
Just returned from a rotten time at the above hotel. Everyone please note: this hotel is awful! A list of all the faults and problems would be far too long, here is a taste:
* the "Garden Room" (basement) - first use of hot water, had to run the tap for 45+ minutes before the brown, rusty water stopped and clear water ran. Every time we ran the hot water after that, it produced light brown water for around 5 minutes. I believe that these Garden Rooms had not been used for some time.
* We paid extra for a 'Superior' room. The 'Standard' rooms must be horrible.
* Insufficient storage space: one small, narrow wardrobe for two people. Not enough for a child, never mind two Seniors.
* Tired, dirty old decor - looked as if it had not been decorated for at least 20 years. Wallpaper peeling from walls, dirty streaks all over woodwork.
* FOOD was awful. "Crushed new potatoes" - half-cooked spuds, simply crushed into a hard lump, skin inside the mess. Very unfresh cod, folded over a mess of spinach, stuck to the fish skin. That's one of the best meals, we could eat some of it!
* LIFT serving 5 floors: supposed to take 4 people. They all had to be slim! We booked as Disabled and had to use the lift, the stairs to our floor turned and we could not negotiate them. Often we waited 30 minutes for a small-capacity lift to move between 4 other floors.
* Some staff could not speak understandable English, some none at all. But all staff except the officious Maitre d', were pleasant and as helpful as could be, in the circumstances.

Those are just a few examples. We took a self-drive holiday with Shearings after a coach holiday Christmas break in Chester was even worse that this latest disaster. We complained and received £70 in vouchers for another holiday. You can bet that we will not be using Shearings ever again.
I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

How were your complaints dealt with at the time?

Have you written to Shearings Customer Care? If they give you any vouchers, and you don't intend using them, I'll buy them off you for 50% face value.:)

We are Shearings fans. They aren't perfect, but for the price you pay particularly off-season they're usually good vfm.

Second Shearings holiday in 9 months, more than ourselves complained about the first. The £70 Shearings vouchers were given for that and spent on the second, Bournemouth holiday. You may be happy with your Shearings holidays, but we were not (and neither were other guests) with either of our 2 holidays.

We will not complain to them again, result will only be more vouchers that we will not use, because we never intend to take another Shearings holiday. We voted with our feet and with an unfavourable review of the hotel, on Trip Advisor. One of quite a few, if you care to read them. The hotel was really, really poor. I am sure you would agree, in the same circumstances.

If you wouldn't, well you must be used to paying very good money for sub-standard accomodation. Thank you for the splendid offer to buy the vouchers at 50% below value, if I still had them I would rather burn them than do that.

Not wishing to be funny but you should try Leger, we travelled a few months ago on their lake Garda tour and wished we'd stayed at home.

If it was worse than the Shearings holidays (which I doubt) then I take your point. Thank you for the tip, though!

Got a £50 leger voucher for next year which we certainly won't be using.

One of the problems we have is that we are located at the far end of Cornwall were few coach operators venture. Titan include our location also Leger but don't know of any others, you of course have to pay a premium, wether included in the price of the holiday or added on at check out, but that's our fault for living were we do. Whenever I get the obligatory Archers email I always look, in hope, that they've included locations over 50 miles for free travel to airports, unfortunately it looks like this will never happen so Titan travel seems the way to go.

We did one of their 4 night 5 day World War I battlefield tours and they were excellent. Really well organised, fantastic tour guide and the 2 drivers were really good and went that extra mile for us and even took a few detours to include some extra places.

After each days visits to battlefields and cemeteries on the way back to the hotel they would show Blackadder goes forth on the TV's to lighten the mood.

Guess We'll stick to the Battlefield tours. :)

It may not matter but I just thought I'd mention that your post here links very easily to your Trip Advisor review with your photo.

I'll delete this post if you like.:)

I stayed at that hotel in June for 3 nights with my mum in standard single rooms. We thought it was fine for what we paid. The rooms were a bit shabby, but clean enough with plenty of hot water, and the beds were comfy. There were queues for the tiny, slow lift, but as I'm fit and, at 55, much younger than the average Shearings guest, I always walked up to my second floor room, as did others like me, to leave the lift for those who really needed it. Overall we got what we expected food and accommodation-wise, and the location was lovely.

Did you tell the receptionist about your issues with the hotel at the time? I don't work for Shearings btw, but I did sell their holidays when I was a travel agent (10 years ago), and people were generally happy with them....there was another coach company we stopped dealing with as we got complaints every time a customer returned from one of their tours.:(
