Home made stir fry sauce ?

One of my favourite ways of using up stuff left over in the salad drawer is a stir fry and very economical too - but not as economical if I need to buy ready made sauces. Does anyone have a favourite way of making a home made stir fry sauce from cupboard ingredients? Thanks.

For chicken, I cook the strips of meat in 2 tbs of honey and 1 of soy sauce (no oil needed) then add the veg and cook that. Before serving I stir through a good shake from a bottle of lime juice.0

Soy, chilli, garlic, ginger, 5 spice, pineapple, lime, lemon - play about and have a look. Jack Monroe has a sweet n sour sauce recipe that's quite simple. Xxx0

3 tbsps rice vinegar
3 tbsps soy sauce
2 tsps sesame oil
1 tbsp agave nectar (or other liquid sweetener like maple syrup, brown rice syrup, coconut nectar etc)
1 1/2 tsps fresh ginger, minced/grated
2 cloves of very finely chopped garlic
1/4 tsp chilli flakes
Few pinches of black pepper

I make one up on the spot. I find you need
something sour
something salty
something spicy or sweet (chilli or honey for example, both is also fine)
Oil
You can also add nut butters.
I always use ginger and garlic because we like them, but they're also optional. I've used random vinegars, maple syrup, powdered and fresh spices etc. If it doesn't taste right I add something else.0 -
For a Chinese style brown sauce........
Cornflour
Soy sauce
V small dash sherry
All mixed with cold water if needed, pour over cooked meat/veg and stir until thickens. Serve.:mad: :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
Soy sauce mixed with marmalade and a bit of ketchup and garlic powder is nice, I've also used apricot jam.:happylove0

- Tomato Ketchup or Brown Sauce
- Chinese 5 Spice or Thai 7 Spice
- Crushed chillies
- Soy sauce
Optionally...
- Peanut Butter
- An egg (especially good with wok-fried noodles or beansprouts).
- Garlic powder
With a couple of spice jars in the cupboard and standard items from the fridge, you can easily make a basic stirfry sauce. I don't buy the pre-made sauces any more.0 -
I make singapore noodles with medium curry powder, teriyaki marinade (bottle lasts for ages I only use about 3 tblspns at a time), garlic, soy sauce and an egg, just chuck any meat or veg and some egg noodles in.
