Great ideas.
We tend to use (tesco value) penne, or fusilli and add:
- bacon and leek,
- bacon and brocolli;
- brocolli by itself;
- spinach; or
- bacon and tomato.0 -

I have been looking and searching for a recipe for Macaroni Cheese that was made using a tub of Double Cream. I think it was on here 2 - 3 weeks ago and silly me didn't write it down. Could anyone shed any light on it, if not I'd love any recipe versions of Macaroni Cheese as I've never made it before x0

Hi mummyof3,
I can't find a recipe with double cream in it but this older thread has some recipes that should help:
Macaroni cheese
I'll merge your thread with that one later as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Slow cooker Macaroni.
about 8oz of pasta - cooked
4 cups of cheddar cheese (or one with a "sharp" taste)
Can od evaporated milk
about one and half cups of milk
2eggs
good dash of salt and pepper.
lightly grease the pot add pasta, add all other ingrediants apart from around a cup of the cheese, give a good mix, sprinkle reminder cheese on the top of the macaroni, set to low for 5-6 hours or till cooked, during this try not to open lid or strir the macaroni.Grocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03

Another quick method is to cook the macaroni and then put in a generous amount of a garlicky cream cheese like Boursin. It melts in the hot macaroni. You can either eat it straight away or put breadcrumbs & more cheese on top and put it in the oven for a bit.
Usually I make mine with a home-made cheese sauce, add in some veges (leeks, cauliflower, sometimes broccoli) and then at the end put a layer of sliced tomatoes on top, then a final layer of breadcrumbs and cheese before baking it until bubbly and brown.
(I make the cheese sauce with wholemeal flour rather than white. It is less likely to go lumpy. If I use white flour, I start off with onions or leeks, for the same reason. DH uses cornflour.)Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000 -
