Using Old contract smartphone(Galaxy s4) Can I put a PAYG sim,for using for whatsapp?
If now have the Samsung Galaxy s7 under 2 year contract with o2,
and the previous phone (on the previous o2 2 year contract) which is the Galaxy s4 is in the cupboard and not being used.
Can we put a New Pay as you go o2 sim in the old s4 phone, and top it up with credit, and use it for whats app messenger?, facebook messenger?, skype messenger?
(as wifi is on the s4, and the property has it)
so use it as a pay as you go smartphone, for chatting on the above messengers? by topping it up often?
or could there be any configuration issues?

Absolutely, you can do this.
But if your internet doesn't connect you need to find the paygo APN setting and input it into the phone settings. As it may be preset to the payminthly settings.0 -
You should also be able to use a GiffGaff SIM even if the phone is locked to O2.

Of course you don't need to top it up if you are just utilising it on WiFi. But if you want to use it out and about, you might want to do so.
Run a search for giffgaff £5 credit to order a SIM.
You can compare to see which might best suit your needs:

Of course if it is locked, you can choose to unlock it for use with any network, as home and abroad.0 -
Giffgaff are awful - I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
The OP can just order a PAYG sim from O2 and use the apps via wi-fi without topping up.
If they need an O2 based network then Tesco Mobile is much better. You should also be able to use a GiffGaff SIM even if the phone is locked to O2.

OP i agree with Heng Leng stay away from NiffNaff they are one of the worst networks out there also they don' have any custom service everything is done on the web so you cannot talk to someone over the phone as you can with O2 and Tesco.
O2 and Tesco are fine..Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0
