AA Gold Cover Mechanical Breakdown Insurance(Not Worth it !!!!)

I bought a car from car giant 8 months ago and purchased 1 year AA Gold Cover Mechanical Breakdown Insurance for £449.
Recently the vehicle started showing a fault and I took it to a garage for some tests. It was diagnosed that the fuel injectors on the engine were leaking and need replacing/ resealing. The fuel injectors were stuck and need a specialist to remove.
I contacted claims department to have the problem rectified and this is where all the drama started. The responses got worse in the day!!!!

1st contact: AA Claims department: I was told look for a cheaper garage than the one I got to diagnose the problem. I was given a list of garages some which i had contacted before but did not want to touch the vehicle as the issue needed a specialist technician. Well in the end I contacted one of the garages which accepted to have look later in the week. No work should be done on the car though until AA agree on the cost. I thought great!! something can be sorted

2nd contact AA Claims department : I was told that I had no claim until the fault is diagnosed. Well, the fault has already been diagnosed and this is why I called in the first place !!! . The person from claims department went on to say that i had to remove the filters to send them for examination. But I pointed it out to him that the filters are stuck and that is why a specialist is required to remove them. Well " we wont pay for cost of specialist as its too high " he says. In the end he kept going round about how i need to have filters removed to be sent away for testing. And warranty will not pay for the cost of removing the stuck filters.

3rd contact AA claims dept: Final call came telling me I had no claim as the filters were clogged due to wear and tear. The insurance does not pay for wear and tear. Excuse me ? page 2 of the t&Cs says the warranty does not cover wear and tear for cars over 5 years old or over 60k miles. my vehicle does not fall in either category !!!. And according to AA warranty, wear and tear means a "sudden failure of a part on a vehicle !!!!! How is that wear and tear really ?

Please this warranty is money down the drain !!! is worth nothing and a scam!!! how can some one tell u wear and tear is sudden failure of component and expect you to accept that. They have not offered a written explanation for declining a claim !!!!

hate to say it but this is entirely normal for paid "warranties".

Because they're not actually warranties, they're insurance. And insurance companies will have small print to either exclude or reclaim the vast majority of claims that normal people might thing would normally be covered.

That's how they make their money.

They take in money in premiums.
They pay out money in admin costs, IPT, marketing costs, commission... oh, yes - and claims.
then they keep some profit, because that's why they're doing it, after all.

ANY aftermarket warranty is a bet that your car is going to be MUCH less reliable than average. That's a bet that's also skewed by very carefully worded Ts & Cs.

Oh, wait. They didn't keep back enough for profit. Because they went under in July.

Put in a complaint in writing, get a final response and then take it to the ombudsman. You might get satisfaction

Many people would say the majority of after market non manufacturer warranties are pretty worthless or certainly unreliable, so much of what could go wrong on a second hand car is or certainly could be claimed to be wear and tear.

Typically it's best to put the warranty cost to one side as a general repair fund and draw on it if and when needed, as well as doing checks and inspections etc before purchase of course.

They have quite correctly agreed to replace the faulty glow plug control relay. The relays fail in one of two ways either always off causing starting issues or always on which eventually burns out the glow plugs. If they are burnt out in this way warranty should pay otherwise it is wear and tear.

Assuming this is one of the Bmw direct injection engines carbon build up on the inlet side of intake valves is a well known issue and considered wear and tear. A lot if companies have started offering a service to media blast the intake port to remove the carbon build up.

Glow plugs themselves are wear-and-tear consumables, though - always have been.

Is it possible that worn glows have taken the control unit out...?
  • Hi all,

AA Warranty is the most not serious company I worked so far.
Not paying for the services which I'm paying for.
They've put me on the way for seven weeks to fix my car, all the garages they gave me, no one was able to deal with BECAUSE AA it is not paying.
I have contact AA for so many times and aski them what is going on, and because they are not professionals and having unprepared staff, they where sending me to different departments ( trying to solve by myself, their job ).
But, still, after seven weeks, waiting for my car, changing garages, calling them, asking them, no one was able to tell me what does it cover and what doesn't .
The garages contacted me and them to tell us what is wrong.
But, when I was calling AA, just to make things move faster, they where telling that no one contact them. Stupid attitude and trying to hide from responsibility.
Bottom of all, I will recommend to all customers and future customers, read carefully the contract and PLEASE, stay away from them, they are not so good as you see.
It's waste of time and energy for nothing.
    NOT GOOD AND NOT PROFESSIONAL
