I'd say your analogy is entirely irrelevant.

It's very easy to self-check whether the charging circuit (alternator) is working on a car ... on a laptop it's not so easy unless you know what you're doing.
Also, having a spare battery for a laptop is never a bad thing anyway.

I'm new to this site, I cannot see anything which says create a new post? hmmm.. Buy a new battery? I would ask the following to this repy: If you buy a new car and find the battery is not charging and is flat after a couple of months - would you buy a new battery or take the car back to the dealer and ask them to change the battery or check why the battery is flat? What would your response be if the dealer said you have to take the car to the manufacturer? Just a thought...;)
You've had the laptop nearly a year not a couple of months. Batteries in laptops last varying amounts of times and may be considered as consumables.0 -

That poster got theirs "last september".
The OP bought theirs in feb 2016.
But this misunderstanding is a perfect example of why you shouldn't hijack someone elses thread with your own problem. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Bear in mind, if you are dealing with Lenovo through the manufacturers warranty rather than through the retailer you purchased it from, you may have to pay to post it to them to repair. That could end up costing you more than a new battery would if they insist you send it back to the country of origin (UK).0
