My issue with Ikea was that they just give you a computer screen and you design it yourself.
With the Wickes and B&Q options, they did the work and offered suggestions, ideas and quirks.

    Ikea do design as well.

I've looked at them to design my utility room. They even come to the house and measure up for £25. You get it back if you go with them.
  • They didn't when we asked last year.

They started doing home design appointments from 1st September for £40. Had mine today and they came and measured up, planned the kitchen, discussed ideas and quoted me. Lots more storage than what I currently have :)

    Good to know smidgey!

I have a tiny kitchen, maybe I will give them a call and get them out to see what can be done!

What do people make of the price Ikea charge for their installation services?

Is it reasonable bearing in mind that they will manage the process throughout and reduce the need for the consumer (Me, potentially) to deal with different contractors?

I've been rebuked by work colleagues as it can be done cheaper than they are offering it for. Just for a rough guide, the price I am quoted is ~£1800 and the total price of the kitchen including that is ~£5000.

I'm finding this process rather stressful, as my home slowly falls apart.

They subcontract it anyway, that £1800 will be a base price I'd imagine too.

By base you mean subject to increase?

    I think they all subcontract.
I have a friend who was a self employed kitchen fitter before he retired, and he got work from b&q; wickes; ikea, ete etc all the time.

They'll say £1800 to fit, then they'll need to move electrics etc and charge more for that etc etc.
