That's what insurance is for, perhaps in future both you and the other party will drive with more consideration for other road users and learn to share the road and avoid bumps where possible.
Just think a few moments wait and a curse and this situation could have been avoided.
PS I'm semi certain your insurance policy requires you to inform of all incidents, whether a claim is being made or not.

You putting yourself forward as a witness? Perhaps you could PM the OP and give them contact details so they can put you in touch with his insurers to get an accurate account.

Oh. You weren't there? Then how do you judge whether the accident was avoidable or not?

Indeed, as the vehicle suddenly appeared from the left! His front clipped the back of the other car, Don't know any skilled painter that is going to get out of bed for £30

Just for your info, car painted for £30. it was very small and took under 10 minutes. Looks skilled to me.

Thanks everyone for their advice, I've informed the insurers and will have to wait and see what happens.

Why not a witness for the other party?
Going on what the OP describes, a vehicle doesn't suddenly appear, if he has clipped the rear then the vehicle was already in front.

How can you judge, based on the fact that you ween't there? I know this is the internet where everyone is automatically clairvoyant, but...

Simply because the laws of physics and what was described by the OP dictates so. Were you there to know that the course of event was any different or indeed as described?

Taxi driver could easily have jumped the gun and pulled out despite OP coming from the right. OP may well have had right-of-way but taxi driver thought he'd chance it.

Yep, taxi drivers and other drivers do take their chances, the OP would have been aware of them approaching from the left, pity there was no dash cam, the £30 for the paintwork would have amply covered the price of a dashcam, which wouldn't have saved the day but may have helped conclude the outcome.

Not on a high horse, I've grown up long ago to know it is better to avoid than resolve who's at fault, I'd rather it was a could have been than it was.
I'm sure on many occasion we have seen or involved in near misses.

You certainly sound to be on a very high horse in deed.
Not all accidents can be avoided by both parties you know, sometimes it is just wrong place wrong time!
Yet you insist on lecturing op for not driving with enough care despite not having even seen any of it! You sound as arrogant as they come! You must be in your 60s or 70s with such arrogance

Normal courtesy is to cautiously give the OP benefit of the doubt unless proved otherwise. Stop being obstinate and argumentative. You can choose to be suspicious of the OPs account that is your prerogative, but if you are going to preach to the OP about the standard of his driving, then it is you that needs to justify you position on your high horse. What's the view like from up there? Could you see the incident from your elevated position on that horse?

We will have to wait for the insurance to decide'm not, yet some people do not get to that age.
