I hade this problem a while back with a Humax Freevitw box - turned out the unit had a dodgy power supply and every time the hard drive tried to record anything the supply cut out. New power supply fitted at the local repair shop fixed all problems - yours could be the same.
Both of my 1100s boxes are only 5 months old so looks like the one will be going back to Amazon. I'll try changing the power supply, which is in the plug on the 1100s, by swapping them over and see if the problem is transferred to the other box before I return it.0
