Rate is rubbish, 8.54. Current Mastercard rate is 8.863, VISA is 8.832

You'd be better off using a card even if it marked up the rate 3%. Anyone with any sense uses a fee-free card which has no markup.

Getting cash sent in the post is out of the ark, obviously risky, and costs far more than using a decent card to get cash. Why anyone would even consider it in this day and age is beyond me.
  • Hi zagfles, thank you for your reply.

Getting cash through the post is always what I have done, a wee bit behind the times I know, but I am unsure about how to go about getting a fee-free card. This is something I will look into in the future but at the moment I would just like to use the system I have used before.

    Cheers.

Walk into a Metro Bank and walk out with a debit card. Put cash into the Metro Bank account, withdraw it at an ATM and/or use for purchases in Croatia.

Alternatively, https://revolut.com Sign up, takes a minute, order physical card via the application, top up account withdraw at an ATM or use for purchases.

You probably already have a debit or credit card that'll give you better value than almost 4% markup hidden in the rate. See http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/travel-credit-cards

How do you get your normal GBP cash for spending here in the UK? Do you get that sent by post too?
  • Jesus!! Come on here for opinions about a website and get a lecture about how I should not be ordering travel money and how I am living in the dark ages and now a feeble attempt at sarcasm.

Please if you cannot answer my original question then please don't say anything at all.

You post a "best deal" with a rubbish rate and a referrer link. We're not that thick here.

You're the one who said you were behind the times.

And every post has given you a pointer in the right direction.
  • So I take it none of you have used that website then?

    None of us would.
  • Ok, I have taken all your advice and signed up for a revolut card, Metro Bank seems to be based in the south of England/London area so no good to me. Now do you think I would be better transferring all my holiday money on to the card and when I arrive withdraw some or get some Kunas here before I travel? I take it, to use the card it will be the same as using a bank card here. This will be my 1st time using a card abroad so a still bit wary. :o
