No type of wax or sealant will stop stone chips. I dont think thats the point of that sort of product anyway.

The dealer is supposed to remove the protective wax as part of the pre-delivery preparation, that is when they get the worst of the dents and scratches touched up.

Best to drive carefully home, and polish it yourself, that way you will find any paint imperfections/dents/scratches/bits missing with a good chance of getting them rectified rather than a curt "You did this"
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Just think, you'd be handing your brand new purchase to a 16 year old who doesn't understand the value of that car and couldn't care less.
  • Depends entirely on how you view your car. Some people are happy to use £5 roadside hand car wash. Others pay £200-500 to a pro for a routine detail. Others still spend more and get it done themselves.

If you're not bothered too much, then let the dealer do everything. If you're worried about anything, ask to be there when they do the PDI so you can see whether there's any scratches, dents etc.

Rather than apply the likes of Supaguard, you're better off putting the money towards either products to do it yourself or get a professional detailer.

I personally do not like dealer washing or valeting and do not allow them to wash my car

but many people are happy to have a free wash and vac while they sip the free coffee on offer and they next time it gets dirty they take it to tesco,s to get it washed by a guy wandering around the parking lot with a cart

as said a lot really depends on car make and colour, if it is a car that you are going to keep for years and you want it to stay looking good and be easy to clean then take it to a professional detailer and spend between £500.00-£1000.00 on a new car protection detail and have two coats of ceramic coating applied to your paint

I seem to have wandered on to the wrong forum. I thought this was about money SAVING.

sorry my advice to you is let the dealer scratch your new car to bits in predelivery prep and then when it gets dirty take it to a roadside carwash and let them cover it in TFR truck wash and high concentrate acid to make your new car bling and they will only charge you a couple of quid for privilege

that should save you a fortune over having the job done properly or if you really want to save money get the fairy liquid from the kitchen and do it yourself

It could be that treating a car well by spending money on it will make it last longer and could therefore save money in the long run

I've had 16 new cars over the years, and don't remember any of them being scratched on delivery. Maybe I've just been lucky.

have you ever looked closely at the paintwork on collection or are you happy to drive away as long as the car looks like it is shining like a diamond in a goats !!!

swirl marks on new paint is somthing that many dealers hand out for free

Maybe your concept of scratches and swirls is different from others.
