SCRIMPY WEEK 4 – APRIL
So - I have £100 Ad Hoc Spends this week – the last week of the month before payday next Thursday.
I'm out with my girlfriends on Saturday night – it's to celebrate my forthcoming birthday, but not on my actual birthday – it was the only night we could get together for a bit. We're trying out a new local Italian restaurant with a cocktail bar which has had good reviews.
If the weather is good at the weekend I'll probably go down to the seafront for a drink on the Monday, although it's usually jammed on Easter Monday whatever the weather!
I'm also getting going on my seasonal clothes/shoes swap at the weekend – I was going to do it last weekend but the chilly weather put me right off! Anything redundant will go to the dress agency or charity shop.
Nothing spent today Ad Hoc wise – I'm continuing to be good at bringing my lunches in and also using my coffee pods in work. When I bought my lunchtime coffees in Pret for me and my friend the other day, the girl serving me remarked that she doesn't see me much anymore. I said that since the pod machine in work arrived my coffees are costing me c.35p per cup instead of £2.55! She quite understood where I was coming from!
I did top up on my toiletries though – and I've gone back to using my Clinique oil free foundation. I swapped it for the Boots No 7 version which was cheaper and started out ok, but it didn't last half as long as the Clinique and also ended up feeling a bit chalky. I then swapped to Max Factor's version, but I've given up half-way through with this one as it doesn't last half as long as the Clinique and the coverage isn't as good. I've come to the conclusion that you get what you pay for with foundation – at least me and my skin do anyway!

I think you strike a good balance between saving and enjoying yourself. I use Mr S Taste the Difference coffee bags, can highly recommend, the coffee is really good and at £2.65 for 10 bags far cheaper than a takeaway. I've tried loads of foundations and now only use L'Oreal CC cream in green. It makes your skin look amazing, Unfortunately it's often out of stock as everyone else must think the same.
Enjoy your night out and have a fab Easter xxI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Sounds like a busy but enjoyable weekend for you SSG . Have a great night out with your friends , Happy Easter to you.Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.0

Hi SSG, I totally agree with your comments re foundation. I have wasted money buying cheaper when i should have just bought what I needed. I will buying what I need next time!
Well done with coffee savingsIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

That's a good bargain on the coffee SA. I have an old-style cafetière at home and use Taylor's Lazy Sunday ground coffee. It's not the cheapest out there but it's my favourite - after trying others I always came back to it so I stick with it. It's all about finding what you like.Sunshine_girl2 wrote: »Sounds like a busy but enjoyable weekend for you SSG . Have a great night out with your friends , Happy Easter to you.
Thanks Sunshine. Enjoy your Scottish break!:)doingitanyway wrote: »Hi SSG, I totally agree with your comments re foundation. I have wasted money buying cheaper when i should have just bought what I needed. I will buying what I need next time!
Well done with coffee savings
Thanks Doingitanyway. I think I've cracked it now on my make up. I find I splurge a bit on foundation, powder, mascara and cream eye shadow as these are best for me. But I buy Bourjois powder blusher and No 7 powder eyeshadow as these work perfectly well. I go cheaper on lipsticks as well - I chop and change with these but always towards the cheaper end of brands as I haven't found that much difference in colour and wearability between them and the more high end products.
And my days of buying hoards of make up is well and truly over! This used to cost a bundle in the bad old days of debt! The thing about getting older is finally finding out that you don't have to follow the hype - and tons of make up isn't going to make you look that much younger!:DFinally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Yesterday was a bit of a disaster re diet. To celebrate the Queen's birthday this weekend the firm had a ginormous cake made for the staff. It was gorgeous - carrot cake with butter cream pistachio icing. I'm afraid I, ahem, indulged.
.
Also boss brought me in some little custard tarts from his holiday.. However when he got back from his 'liquid' lunch he remarked that he didn't think carrot cake qualified as one of my five a day, even with the carrots included! One of my colleagues fired back and said he didn't think that fermented grapes and hops soaked in water qualified either!:T
Anyway I shall trudge on regardless.....:D
Spends went rather better though. Yesterday I put £1 in a collection at work. And I winged over £20 to DSis's account for flowers as it would have been my mum and dad's birthdays this week and she will be going over to the cemetery on her way to work.
I've also received £6.23 from Prolific.
Bliss, bliss, bliss this weekend - four days off work!:j
The boss let me leave work at 3pm yesterday which was great. I got home, sat down with some coffee, caught up with diaries and then read my book. In the evening I did feel really tired and went to bed at 8.15pm and slept for 11 hours!
Today I've zoomed through the housework. This afternoon I'm going over the living room in more detail and getting the ironing done and then sorting out the seasonal clothes.
Have a good Good Friday everyone!
