Virgin Media & new builds

Hi,

Does anybody know much about the Virgin Media package for new builds, which includes 3 months free?

I know that our new build has Virgin Media cables in the house and we are told by the sales office that these will be connected before we move in and they do this 3 month package, but that's all they know! So I'm waiting until I can get in touch with the Virgin Media agent for the site, however, I just wondered if anybody who has had the package could help in the meantime?

  • That's all they know? Really? Ask them how much of a bung Virgin give them for this - they will know, but perhaps be unwilling to let you know...
  • The usual sales person is on holiday. I'm just hoping I can find a bit of info out about the package available so that I can decide what I want to do before I move in.

Like any package they're constantly evolving and subject to change.

  • A little, thank you. I've done a lot of reading, I think I just need to find out what the actual package available is!

TBH what deal someone else get's could be wildly different to the one offered to you.

I believe it is a standard new build offer.

Yes but to whom...... You or the developer? Virgin are not cheap. Even with discounts.

You have called VM to find out the answer, haven't you? or is that not the most obvious solution?

Do check if alternative telecomms providers have presence (via BT Openreach ducting and cabinets) on the development otherwise you are stuck with VM as a monopoly provider.

Similarly check if there's a blanket ban (via Codecils) on external UHF TV aerials and satellite dishes ... as that can mean a costly ongoing VM subscription. (Although you may be lucky and get UHF TV via a loft or room aerial if the transmitter is close enough.)

To us - it's just an offer where you get a package for three months free - I'm just trying to find what the package is.

You can get standard BT, Sky, etc. Just not fibre. But I'm happy to give the three months 3 offering a go, just curious of the package. Yes, I have rang them but they don't know, you have to speak to the Virgin person for the site, but I don't know who that person is for a few weeks so just thought I would ask.
  • I would guess the 3 months free would be landline, TV with one TiVO box and broadband with 70meg download. The idea being to give you enough to encourage you to stick with them but not so expensive (as adding the frills can be) that you go elsewhere when the freebee ends.

Cable is the best way to get fast and stable services imho.
