Pensacola, FL, to San Antonio, TX

Am in early stages of planning a trip for the first two weeks of next April, flying into Pensacola and out of Houston.
I have flights 'on hold' until this evening and have done a recce on car rental.

Any tips/ideas/comments from anyone who has visited this area would be helpful

Thanks :)
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

    Sorry Murphy, busy day :o
Yes, was planning on driving, and not sure yet how long to spend where - what would you suggest?

From someone who used to live in Pensacola
"Great restaurants on the beach and flora bama is about 30 mins away, awesome bar has about 15 different bars inside and they do a mullet toss on the weekends" & " I will give them some great restaurants to go to if they need them"

I was surpised how close together they are - I thought it would be about 1250 miles, not 500ish

I'm not a drinker and don't really 'do' bars, unless I'm going there to eat, so recommendations of good places to eat would be fab, thanks!
I'm thinking of a couple of days in Pensacola area to chill and adjust to the time difference (takes me a day or two), pootle across Alabama and Missisippi (would quite like to do a trip on a paddle steamer, if possible), possibly a day or two in New Orleans then into Texas.
San Antonio (Seaworld and The Alamo), maybe Corpus Christie(?), Galveston, Johnson Space Centre and then return flights from Houstion (IAH)
Transatlantic flights are Virgin to Atlanta, connections on Delta but VS flight numbers and all on one ticket.
Slightly apprehensive about how busy the I10 might be and there are one or two bridges that look, fankly, terrifying, but wouldn't be in any great hurry and quite happy to find alternative routes if necessary.

    What do you think?

  • Hello Jackie

I'll be able to get you a few eating tips for Pensacola and the surrounding area, no worries.
I don't know anything about Alabama, Louisiana, & Misissipi, sorry.
We really like Texas and Texans. Lots to do, but don't underestimate distance in Texas, its a big old place. Try and find a rodeo if you can as well.

We had no issues on I-10, other than at peak times in the cities, it was busy. outside of peak times, it was just another way to get from A-B.

Your itinerary looks fun, varied and very doable - have fun.

    Murph

p.s re the Alamo 'jeez, I thought it would be bigger than that !!"

    Thanks Murphy :)

Flights are now booked (had a lovely chat with the lady at Virgin's call centre :D ), I have paid a little extra for extra legroom aisle seats on the transatlantic legs.

Now I can get stuck in to research and planning the details :)

(I think I might be getting the bug for solo travelling :D )

Listen to you with your Fancy Dancy extra legroom seats - good on you, you're worth every penny.

    Alone?

Was considering something similar just this weekend. Either cross country from Miami to San Diego or a loop including some of the places that you mention(which avoids the hefty one way fee).. Though not alone. I have a driver. :)
Scrapped it for now because of a too full timetable.
