Windows 7 update

I have recently updated the vista to windows 7 professional but because i had no key with the installation disk to verify it comes up with message not genuine copy and will not let me update.
Do i need to get updates from windows and is there another way of getting them ?

Looking at your posting history, it seems that you have a habit of starting and abandoning threads with alarming regularity.
3,6,9,12 months later, you begin a new thread to deal with the things to which you did not respond in the first place.
This may affect others willingness to engage with your problems..

If you're running illegal software then you won't get updates.
My advice is to get a valid licence key.
(Probably Windows 7, rather than Vista.)

i did take the advice of the old threads this has been a long process as i have had other issues to deal with more recently.
i thought starting a new thread would be more appropiate because this is a different issue

I know its been a while but has anyone any advice if i need windows updates or will i not need them really, all i use laptop for is internet.

"using the Internet" is the biggest reason why you should update Windows.

If you installed a copy of Windows without any key it won't activate and you won't get updates. In the short term it may not matter but you are using illicit software and there is a risk of getting infected because your copy of Windows is not up to date.
Prowla gave you sound advice nearly two months ago. Why don't you act on it?
