Best Resort for Family Holiday in Majorca/Menorca?

As above, looking to go to either Majorca or Menorca next summer with my partner and 2 boys who will be 7 & 2. Been to Benalmadena last 2 years and loved it but looking for a change. We like a nice short flight.

Where is the best resort and any recommendations on hotels/apartments?

Thanks xx

Barrheadtravel fly from Glasgow to Majorca with aircraft in a 2-2 configuration operated by BA.
Alcudia and Pollensa are popular for families.

Best is very subjective. If you want the offer of busier resorts Majorca has more choice.

If you want quieter resorts Menorca may be a better choice, Cala n Bosch is about the busiest resort, but its also a long transfer. We stayed in Binibeca. 20 minutes from the airport, lovely villa with pool, beach and restaurants a short walk away.
  • Look at Santa Ponsa in Majorca. If you want the water park etc. in Magaluf it's easily accessible on the bus.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.
  • Alcudia has a wonderful beach and shallow water, perfect for children. There is a waterpark within walking distance of most hotels/apartments.
  • Avoid the Pirates Village in Santa Ponsa. While it looks stunning outside, it hides a grubby, mould infested interior. It's cited as a 3 star but really isn't.

Viva Mallorca at Cala en Bosch is better. Near a bus stop so can get bus to Cuitadella which is a nice town to wander about. Hotel clean and loads of restaurants in the town which is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

As others have said, Menorca is quieter but more family orientated IMHO. Mallorca is bigger and brasher. Magaluf looked like hell on earth driving through to get to Santa Ponsa - high rise hotels, English pub grub (chips and mushy pies etc) and tacky shops. Personally I'd avoid that place like the plague.

Have you thought of Croatia? The Istra peninsula up near Italy is lovely and the people are very friendly. Porec is pretty and while it's not sandy beaches, there's nice walks along the coastal paths. Can go to Venice for the day and there's Lipica stud farm up in Slovenia as well as the postonja caves and Pula Roman amphitheater so loads to do as well. Might be worth considering as about the same timewise on a plane.
  • Forgot to add, we went Jet2Holidays (also from Scotland) for all of these places and can't fault them. They sometimes offer free kids places (we got one for next year at a 4 star in Pula, Croatia). You can pre-book food which is great for the wee ones as means not having to search for change and the food is surprising good. Can also pre-book seats so you can all sit close to each other. They do loads of destinations from Glasgow / Edinburgh.

Feel free to pm me if you want any more info.
  • Playa de Palma is v.close to the airport, and also has a good bus service into Palma.

Thank you all so very much. Its swings and roundabouts. Some have a short flight from Glasgow but transfer time is long.

Alidolly we have flown Jet2 the last couple of years however this year I am finding them more expensive, Thomson believe it or not is cheaper.

    I was also considering Ibizia.

Less family friendly, and that could start on the outbound flight.

We stayed in Siesta 1 in Alcudia this year - great pool and I noticed great reps with plenty of childrens entertainment
Close to lots of lovely restaurants and 10 minutes walk down to the beach. This walk is called the strip - its where all the bars and shops are - pretty much brits abroad if thats what you are after.

We also have been to Benalmadena although on the Torremolinos side of the marina - I preferred the promenade walks there and general area overall, although to me Alcudia was much cleaner looking and better range of eateries to suit our family..
