Cheaper Sky?

Options
After successfully reducing my Virgin broadband and phone by £6 a month and getting free caller display I though I would try my hand at reducing my Sky bill.

I am currently paying Sky £28.75 a month to keep my wife happy.

She watches Universal, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living, Fox, Alibi, Sony, Syfi and of course a lot of the "free" channels.

She never watches any kids channels.

I have an HD box but don't pay for any HD channels, the TV has a Freeview HD tuner.

I can't tell whether I'm watching an HD channel or not.

Am I paying for some channels she never watches or is that £28.75 that I am paying the cheapest that Sky goes?
over 73 but not over the hill.

Original ie no children's ,arts, discovery, sport channels or boxed sets is £20 full price, but no need to pay that.

Really? I can see High Definition straight away. The difference is stark.

Do you have a large screened tv ?

I can barely tell on our Panasonic 42" (about 6 feet away), but can tell on my son's 50" Grundig.

  • I think I have got exceptionally lucky with the deal I have just received on live chat. Originally moved to Virgin but HATED the box that comes with virgin, it is slow, takes ages to change channels etc and the interface was just awful so I so had to return to Sky. Waited for a deal and received a letter in the post offering 60% off any bundle and £75 bill credit if I returned. Therefore just returned with the original bundle (which I believe has all channels you watch above) and original bundle after 60% off is £8 a month, minus my £75 bill credit means I am only paying £1.75 a month! on a 12 month contract...
Honestly I would cancel and wait for an offer from them, works wonders, but you MUST CANCEL not just say you will think about it to them.

    Talk to retentions.

You could get Original bundle for £10 for 10m on a 12m contract so £20 for 2m, if you persuade them that Virgin might do a good deal to switch TV to them.
  • I cancelled Sky, had numerous offers during the 30 day notice period, but hung out. Within a month got offered the original bundle for £5pm, for 12 months but no contract, just the 30days notice.

They appear to be having a mean period, as people offered 60% off, before switch off, have had the offer reduced to 50% for10 months (ie actually only about 40% off) and all they would offer me, today, on phone/ADSL, was free broadband.

That's not a TV retention offer (free broadband) so it may be worth giving them a call!

They have been mean over the tv deals (no credits and short time limit), but I have done a phone/ADSL enquiry with an offer of just free ADSL, then an email offering free use of SKY+ with line retention.

I used the link in the email, to be offered an even worse ffer of half price broadband or a package with full price tv and almost full everything else, so I'm off to PlusNet.

I hardly watch Sky programmes anyway, so will dust off the Humax PVR and try out the TV's Freetime (through aerial, specific to Panasonic).
