Thompson & Morgan - Selling data

A warning to anyone who makes purchases from Thompson & Morgan, that they "rent" (what does that mean in the context of personal data) personal details (names and addresses) to other companies "as part of our regular course of business".
You need to opt out on every order. Maybe this is not a great surprise, I'm sure many others do this, but a recent personal mailshot from AgeUK that seemed strangely targeted led me to question where they had gotten hold of my details and they revealed they were purchased from T&M.
I'd like to think charities could spend our donated money on more practical projects rather than buying personal data (they were selling a funeral plan - I'm 39) but that's a whole broader debate no doubt.

Can't be that well targeted Sending funeral plan adverts to a 39 yr old.0

That explains a lot. I have bought plug plants etc from T&M and now I'm getting lots of emails/mailshots targeted at a much more mature audience - I'm younger than the OP. It's slightly disconcerting when you check your emails and all of the junk is about funeral plans, mobility aids and velcro-fastening shoes ...0

Here's a response from T&M, they can't tell me who they've sold the information to "as this is not information that we hold or that we are able to obtain due to the data protection act"
"However, below is a list of mailing houses to which your information may have been shared with. If you would like to contact each house directly they will be able to confirm whether they have received your details and ensure this is removed from all future mailings.
