I ordered an item last Sunday, which was coming from France in 4-5 days.

First thing this morning I got a text from the delivery firm, DPD, giving me an hour window this afternoon, (with various options if not convenient).

Later on, I got an email confirming the hour window, and giving a link to a webpage where I could track the progress.

Within the hour window, the tracker showed me on a map where the van was, how long it would take to reach me, and what my number in the queue was. I had not had these features with other delivery firms before.
It was good because when I saw I was the next number, I could decide not to start doing something that would be difficult to leave when the doorbell rang.

The delivery was made just inside the hour window.

I had a look at their website, which I was also very impressed with.
(dpd.co.uk)

I can thoroughly recommend them :)

(Compare all that to a different firm who delivered something a few months ago, where I was told it would come between 8am and 6pm! And then they didn't come, so I had the tedious task of phoning and holding on for ages to find out why. Not very useful!)

I had the delivery experience from hell this week caused by DPD. Previously I would have said the same as the op, but I hope that I never have a delivery made by them again.

Next day delivery arranged for Saturday.
    Get timed slot.
Driver lies about trying to deliver my parcel. (I was right by the front door)
Delivery to a local shop arranged for Sunday.
Turn up at shop; and they don't deliver on a Sunday.
The parcel arrives at the shop on Monday and is turned away because it is too big.
Get a message to say that they will deliver to my house that day.
    Fails to turn up.
    Timed slot for Tuesday.
Driver rummages around for 10 minutes and says that he has left the parcel at the depot.
Comes back 2 minutes later because the parcel was on van after all.
When we unpack the box the microwave is broken.
    !!!!

We are now returning the microwave to a John Lewis store tomorrow and getting a replacement.

If you look at Trustpilot reviews you will see that lying about trying to deliver is a common cause for complaint. I was so annoyed at being lied to that I did my first online review. I'm sure they can be good, but when they are bad they are terrible.

    Oh dear!

It just goes to show that, at the end of the day, it's all down to individuals, doesn't it?,

    What a shame. :(

can I sing the praise for Parcelforce !

parcel sent from france via Parcelforce/gls on the 28/08 arrived in the UK on the 30/08 and Parcelforce have decided to adopt it , or be its foster parents , they refuse to let me see it or deliver it , and stubbornly refuse to update the online tracking past "arrived UK 30/08".

You have turned a positive topic into a negative one....high five to you.

    And your point is?

This is called praise, vents and warnings. My experience just happens to be a very negative one.

We eat out a lot and have online deliveries at least once a week and this is the first time I've felt the need to do a negative review. It's not like I make a habit of being a party pooper.

It's ok to give another point of view or describe a different experience of the same supplier. :)
    It's all about balance.

You could save money by eating in #justsaying
  • But I like eating out. Don't make me stop.

I don't want to hijack a positive thread and I will happily delete my post if Pyxis would prefer.

I've also found DPD to be good in the past, but this latest experience has definitely changed my opinion of them
