    Don't see what the fuss is about, I'm looking at you jolly Roger when I say that. A firm I went to today were using XP on its machines, it's an operating and it does a job for them

    Kudos for getting £35 out of them.

    They really need to use Ubuntu or something for Banking stuff....

  • Most people I work with wouldn't know and wouldn't care which operating system they're using. When the shop assistant/bank teller looks blank and avoids your comment it's because they don't have a clue what you're on about.

    I know a company that is still using W95 on some of its systems.

    I guess it may surprise many people that there are big and small businesses out here running (generally perfectly well) on Cobol or similar, with XP or 2000 as front ends. Most the systems that could cost you your life if they fail are by 2016 standards totally antiquated.

    Did you check the PC at your docs or hospital lately?

    Air traffic above your head is partly controlled by Jovial software that you've probably never heard of because it was mainly used in the 1960s.

    Banks rely on millions of lines of Cobol code that was written before the analysts could have possibly predicted the rise in online transaction.

    Thousands of businesses control their logistics using similar Cobol systems.

    I'm sure all these businesses have a plan in place for an ordered upgrade of their underlying systems and front ends. Just don't trust a government to be able to organise however:
