Unfortunately, as I have discovered, the reason shops have their Christmas stuff out is because people wabnt to buy it! People are already seraching online for Christmas gifts, some have already finished most of their shopping - it isn't the shops you know, it's the customers!

Don't you believe it .. have a look at the best before dates ... if they are Feb/Mar 2008 (which the ones in our local supermarket are) then it is petty sure that it is last years stock ... the new stock will have best before dates in 2009.

  • I look forward to December when we get the thread with the title:

"Why are the shops so crowded? Why do people leave their shopping so late??"

As has been said, it's a consumer's world. If nobody bought xmas stuff, there wouldn't be any on the shelves

Most shops probably will .. and I am one of the mugs buying them :D ... However with large supermarkets there can be left overs that get put to the back of the warehouse (or at least that is where I put them when I had to clear the shelves many years ago ;)

  • This is one of my pet hates. Christmas fever seems to start earlier every year. It's true that the shops wouldn't stock it if people didn't buy it but the fact that it's on the shelves pressurises people into buying early, especially with the "don't leave it too late, only 15 weeks left till Christmas" messages:rolleyes:

I refuse to be dragged into the frenzy and won't buy anything "Christmassy" until December at the earliest.

Not only that, the clock's 'a ticking towards the start of the "who can get the most lights on their house so that it's visible from outer space" competition. One house in my neighbourhood (though out of sight from my house thank God) has already started the annual festive lights marathon on their house. The decorations get more and more tacky with each passing year - some people just don't appreciate that less is more:rolleyes2

Christmas has long since ceased to be a Christian celebration and is now just one huge money-making enterprise. Come Christmas time, I'm sick to the back teeth of it and can't wait for it to be over.
  • I just don't buy any of it. :D

All of which only goes to prove my pet theory that the shops have got so far ahead of themselves that this stuff is actually intended for Christmas 2008.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
