VIRGIN MEDIA...is this legal?

I am currently being supplied broadband and home phone with virgin. At the start of the contract they invited me to pay for the phone upfront which would result in a £30ish discount. I did this...Since signing up my broadband has constantly been faultly; I'm sure in 6 months not a month has passed without me having to contact them. Each time they credit my account with a minimal sum for the inconvenience.
I finally asked to be released from the contract as I'm not happy with the intermittent service to which they are willing to do however they said they can't refund me the £100+ for the outstanding balance left on my home phone as the phone isn't faultly.
There my be nothing wrong with the phone but I need a broadband service that works and without them suppling the broadband the phone is of no use to me.
IS THAT ALLOWED????

"If you cancel Line Rental Saver within 14 days of your order you will get a full refund of your advance payment. If you cancel after this time, Line Rental Saver is non-refundable."
Probably, the above is from Plusnet's ts & cs re paying in advance for line rental.
You will have agreed to something similar whan you signed up.0 -
It would cost you more than £100 to find out whether or not their actions are legal and the overwhelming likelihood is that they are 100% within the contract.
Virgin phone and broadband are different products you can cancel the broadband and retain the phone. If you want ADSL or FTTC though you will need another BT based phone line.
VM telephony charges are not usually very competitive. If this were me I'd probably write off the pre payment if you are unable to get them to properly fix the broadband service.0 -
Hello,
I don't know whether this has been posted or mentioned before in another thread and apologies if it has, but I just wanted to give a warning about the pressurised sales techniques that Virgin are currently using. I had a cursory look on the Virgin Media Website to view plans etc to see whether I could get a better deal, I admit I did put items in the shopping basket but just left and forgot about it (let’s face how many people do that?), today I received a 'knock on the door' from a salesperson enquiring as to whether I had made any enquires about switching to Virgin Media, living with my parents of course I denied it, which technically is the truth any, because as I say at no point did I arrange for a salesperson to come to the house.
I just wanted to mention and give this as a warning NOT to place things in you basket if you then don't want a 'knock on the door' a couple of days later, it could be quite intimidating for some people and in my mind this was unsolicited, if they call again then I will probably make an official complaint to Virgin, this time I will let it go as it could have been 8 and 4 (I will not say 6 and half a dozen as I really do feel that Virgin were in the wrong).
Sorry for the ramblings but I do suffer quite a lot from verbal diarrhoea (had to Google that word as I can never spell it and I can't remember the mnemonic (another Google find) from school. Sorry I will really shut up now as not only am I needlessly rambling, but also 'watering down' the seriousness of what I trying to impart!0
