  • You could try one or two applications, but living in your overdraft could present a challenge. I would look to clear that before applying.

I would focus on paying those debts that are currently paying interest. So batter down your overdraft or get the £750 card down. Look at the positives...You have a lot of cheap debt at zero percent so use that to your advantage to focus payments on the interest bearing debts. It's not a quick fix but slowly and surely things will improve. You will then be able to shift debt to your current cards and get rid of old ones. Don't apply for new ones.

Please don't take this the wrong way but personally I think you'd benefit from a more structured review of your finances and budgets, as you started with an apparently straightforward query about 4-5 credit cards but have subsequently clarified other debts (overdraft, some catalogue debts, another credit card) and suggested that budgeting may be an issue (running out of funds on extension, "things keep coming up like special birthdays and things"). 0% balances are obviously better than interest-bearing ones but ultimately they're still debts that need to be paid off rather than just moved around.

So, given that you're feeling overwhelmed and worrying about this daily, it may be worth posting over on the debt-free wannabe board where you'll find many others in similar circumstances and plenty of support and ideas. Start with laying out your income and expenditure in a statement of affairs to get a clear picture of where you stand and where to focus....
