New Car Damaged by Dealer

My husband picked up his brand new 66 plate car yesterday, when he got home he noticed 2 quite considerable dents on either side of the roof - probably caused by the transporter offloading.

He took it back the dealer who agreed that's the likely cause. They have offered to repair it for him and are loaning him a replacement whilst his is being fixed.

Should he negotiate some kind of discount now for the "broken" car? or ask for a replacement brand new car?

It seems outrageous that he's bought a brand new car but in essence is a damaged vehicle!

Any advice would help!

Many new cars are damaged and repaired before the customer see's them.

Even before it leaves the factory.

Sure, but this time the customer - my husband - has seen it.
  • Yes ask for some extra freebies and maybe a years tax, tank of petrol etc.
  • They're fixing it, and giving you a loan car to put miles upon.
How many £millions of compo would you like from them ;) ?

They're also putting miles on his car as they will be driving it to their official garage to fix it which is c.60 mile roadtrip.

It is getting fixed but it's not nice knowing that you have a damaged car when you have paid top dollar for a brand new car.

Worried re the fixing of the damage, it's not going to be an easy fix like a new wing, hoping its not a quick fix which worsens over time!

Then you simply ask them to use a transport vehicle of theirs to take it up to their 'official garage' this will save 60 miles being put on the car

But with the risk of additional transported-related damage being caused.

Have you agreed to the repair?

Under the CRA rules you could reject the car as faulty, and get a refund, but that could involve all kinds of subsequent problems, namely,

Did you part ex your old car, has the dealer still got it?

Is finance involved, can, can you cancell it at this stage?

If your part ex is not available what will you do for transport until you can get a replacement car.?

I think the best course of action will be as suggested, let them repair it and try to get some freebie.

Don' t worry unduly about the standard of repair, the main dealer is unlikely to want you to be able to complain again.

I can fully understand where you are coming from you have been looking forward to the new car and are annoyed and disappointed with the damage. Get it repaired plus a goodwill gesture and I am sure in a few months time you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
    Good Luck
