My local HSBC branch (Suffolk) has two ATMs, one of which does claim to dispense £5 notes (though we have zero student population - except during holidays) and which I therefore carefully avoid, as the last thing I want is a pocket packed with those useless things.

I'm with agrinnall, roll on the issue of £5 coins!

Personally I'd much prefer notes, though since I seldom use cash it wouldn't make a great deal of difference to me.

The reason I like the £5 note only dispensers is I tend to use card or contactless for anything much over £5, so fivers are really the only notes of any use to me.

I've also recently sold a few things privately and find anything you price at say £15, £25 etc people never have the right money (no doubt because they can't get fivers either) and if you don't have a fiver for change you either lose the sale or have to knock £5 off.

I used to stock up on £50 worth of fivers at my late lamented £5 note only ATM knowing I could therefore deal with pretty much any cash eventuality, but alas no more.

Out of curiousity, why don't you use a card for transactions less than £5? Or is it simply that the shops you use have a minimum limit for card purchases?

Just habit really - I suppose before the days of contactless it just seemed too much hassle for a small transaction - and some places like market stalls etc don't take cards.

The new plastic £5 comes out today and until the ATMs are modified none of them will give out the new notes.

ATM softwares have been updated weeks ago to accept the new notes, its just a case of waiting for the deliveries, this also includes the new update on the paying in machines, whom didn't accept the scottish £5 notes but will now... tried this afternoon although no new £5 notes they are being delivered tonight.

There are quite a few machines near me which were dispensing £5 notes and you could request money in an amount that ended in a 5 e.g. £25. However, the last machine I used was one that dispenses £10 notes but this was fine for my purposes.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Natwest and Tesco dispense £5 notes where I live, could try them.

Snap! My local Tesco Express has three RBS in-the-wall ATMs and one of them dispenses £5 notes. Useful when I wanted a few of the new fivers last week.

But is that a £5 only ATM, which is what the OP wants? Or does it just include fivers in the dispense mix?

Yup: The notice on the ATM says that it only dispenses £5 notes. I withdrew £25 and it was all in fivers. The benefit of course is that it will dispense a single fiver if that's all you want.
