Replace Nexus 4?

I'm thinking of replacing my trusty Google Nexus 4 which I've had since June 2013 (IIRC) with something that will receive 4G

The mobile signal here is pretty poor, especially in the house - would 4G make any difference?
Visitors recently with Galaxy and iThingy have both picked up a 4G signal where I have none.
We are all on Three
I'm quite happy with my £8 sim only contract.
I also like the idea of 'pure google' (is that how it's described?)
Mrs B has an Android (Lenovo Yoga) tablet that has plenty of extra cr4p that can't be removed - don't like that idea.
I've looked at Nexus 5x and MotoG (3rd Gen)

Any 'better' suggestions???

:)

Nexus 6 is pretty good value - I got a second hand one about a year ago and my OH got a new one on contract quite recently. I used to have a nexus 5 which was great apart from the small 5 inch screen but it is full HD (nexus 6 is quad HD and a 6 inch screen). The iphone 7 has a lower resolution than the 3 year old nexus 5!

    iphone 7 1334x750 (From £599)
    nexus 5 1920x1080 (about £100)

Moto G4 is a great phone with very little installed crapware

    Even better the Nexus 6P

PS if you are considering the Moto G3 (with 4g) go for the 2GB ram 16GB model, its on Amazon around £120

The main thing concerning me is that I don't want a bigger screen, sorry! :o

Nex4 fits in the front pocket of my jeans perfectly .......

New Nexus (to be rebranded Pixel) phones will be announced soon. I would wait and see what the details/prices are before doing anything.

Thanks all - any thoughts on the above query?

  • You mentioned that your visitors were able to get a 4g signal I your home and that you are all on 3 so that's a good indicator that you will get a 4G signal.

4g signal is meant to be better at penetrating walls etc.

I reckon the new Nexus's may be large screen phones but I could be wrong. If they are your best bet for a smaller screened phone with an almost pure android experience would be the Moto G 3.

Will I need a new sim to get 4G??

My sim is a micro sim from about 18 months ago.

Probably not ... as the SIM doesn't handle any of the physical communications, it provides the authentication information to allow access to the network. An old SIM may take slightly longer to connect to 4G, but it should still connect.
