How am I supposed to have time for hobbies if work kills me?

So unfair.. I work 800-430 this week for minimum wage. On my feet all day. Have to walk and just got back I'm so aching I can't do anything like I used to do like work out and go for a run. Can't even carry on learning the guitar. Work sucked it out of me and all I get is minimum wage. Barely get any money for myself after the bills. What's worse is I'm on shifts next month. They suggest overtime but thats just taking the biscuit! Just work then watch tele for the rest of my life.. whats the point in workin if I aint got the energy to be fit and play in a band?
Tempted to just go back to bein on the doll tbh. How do people do it

Assuming you mean 0800 to 1630, that's not a particularly long day - many people start at that time and finish a couple of hours later than you do.

You're describing nothing that millions of other people do not do. Do you have a disability? Have you worked out why you are aching, do you need to look at what shoes you are wearing or your health in general?

Tempted to go back on the dole? Great attitude!

Apart from the fact that you have evenings, you also have days off and holidays. It's a tragedy that you have to do what everyone else does, but short of a win on the lottery, this is life. Those are not particularly long hours, and shifts are just what some people have to do.

You might consider changing your user name. It doesn't seem particularly appropriate.

According to earlier posts you've only just gone back to work after being off sick for two months, during which period you'll have had plenty of time to play the guitar - music being therapeutic and all...

It's normal, though it does get easier once you get used to the new job and routine. My day is 8am to 5.30pm, plus a 40 min commute each way.

As time goes on, you'll hopefully earn a bit more and will feel a bit less tired. :)

I do same hours as you and can still do more if I choose.

So what do you do at weekends as you don't work 7 days a week ?

What is that is killing you, the hours or the work. Because the hours are normal and well, that's life! It is the duties then, can you start planning your strategy to find something less exhausting or at least better paid? It might take a few years but if you have a plan, it will be easier to cope with.

I suspect lack of the right kind of fitness is part of the problem - sounds like you are getting some exercise and work together. Give it 6 weeks to get used to it and then see how you feel.

You mention both walking back from work and wanting to go for a run - in the future could you combine them and run home?

Your employer really doesn't care whether you use your non-working hours for hobbies or not, it's up to you to decide how to best use that time. Obviously whingeing online is number 1 priority just now.
  • Hi, i feel for you, your hours are not tooo bad providing you are not commuting for hours each day BUT its the work that makes it hard.

your hours on your feet vs my hours sat on a PC with cakes and coffee, im sure your hours are much more demanding and emotionally draining, you almost sound like you work at Amazon or sports direct!. Its true, MANY people do it every day, some are able to crack on, some cant accept that will be their lot. I dont blame the latter.

Try and create something to aim for, look into starting your own business maybe, put some money aside for a year and go for it. Even if you make 15k a year, at least you did it and you didnt have to do something you hate.

Or get a better education and apply for jobs with prospects? Evening courses etc.

    Hope you find something dude.
