The remoska is an original bought years ago but as it was still safely packed away somewhere when I was without a kitchen I bought a von shef table top cooker from amazon for about £20. The heat comes from the bottom of the gadget rather than from the top like the remoska but it seemed to do a good job.

HUgs to all - need to dash out.

Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
    Preemie hats - 2.
  • They are square legs - very chunky, from a farmhouse table - probably about 8 inch each side, and just detatched from an old table with the sharp edges sanded off. I used about 20 balls of wool all together and made throws, etc. Lots of fun. I had to sit in the middle of the settee with them on the outside seats, as too heavy to lift!!!

    Morning all :j

Welcome to our new posters

I woke up pretty perky this morning so I have decided I can manage the ironing I've hidden away. It's easy enough, I'm sat on the sofa with the press on the coffee table in front of me. Sheets and duvets were folded when hung on the airer so just need to feed them through
Jeans and t shirts are just as easy

Vacuuming - I'm beginning to think I will invest in an upright. I have a Miele cylinder ATM, it's brill but I'm thinking the upright will be easier on the joints ( and my skirtings ) cos it's a flaff to carry I kind of drag it around

So ironing and dusting today and clean one bathroom. Then decide what's for dinner. I've pork chops but Im just not getting excited about them lol
  • Morning all!

Glad you are having a better day Suki. Is it wrong to confess that I just don't bother with ironing? I haven't even got round to getting an ironing board yet :o

Thank you everyone for your kind words, support and advice yesterday. I have been thinking over it a lot since posting (alright, obsessing about it!) and I know that I do have to stand up for myself more than I have done. I think that part of the problem is that I don't know anyone thrifty/OS away from MSE, so until I chatted about it here, it was easy to be swayed. In the end I have decided to write a note explaining how I feel about the situation and then I can give it to her if she mentions it again, in case I can't explain it in words :) I have probably made her sound awful, but she really isn't, she is lovely! If anything she just tries to do her job a bit too well LOL

I'm not feeling that great today but I need to do something else I know I will feel even worse. When I have days like this I try to find a little job that isn't too difficult but will give a noticeable result, so I have decided to paint my kitchen cabinets. I got some chalk paint from Aldi not long after I moved in and experimented painting a couple of the drawer fronts to see how it would hold up. It seems to be fine so today I am going to go for it!

Hoping all have a good day today xx
  • Lovely misty morning here, and last night a beautiful orange moon, I do hope NMAA and all the rest of you saw it, apparently it helps you sleep to see the moon - reinforces the body clock, like enjoying sunlight in the mornings.
I hope the painting is going well Larumbelle, I'm just dying to upgrade a few bits of furniture with fresh paint or varnish, but a bit lacking in confidence to start, as I've never done anything like that before.

We did a weekly shop this morning, @lid and "ilks, went early to avoid busy time. We tried to avoid the aisles with cakes/biscuits/sweets as we are trying to lose weight before DH's knee op but it's so difficult...I probably bought too much fruit, have been making fruit salad instead of puddings.
This afternoon I hope to take the dog for a walk.
Hope everyone is having a good day, Sun has just come through the mist here.

Morning everyone! It's a bit cloudy here, but you never know...

Had a few quiet days there being exhausted. Not much got done apart from ye olde monthly budget plan. Pay day and I'm all excited with my new (no more than 30 mins) in a shop.

Rather madly I thought I'd move over my summer wear to Autumn / winter. Storage, a clear out etc. Silly me said oh it'll take a day or two. Now on day 5! Slow progress but it's starting to look good and more importantly easy to find things at 7.30am:rotfl:

I'm a little down and anxious today, so hopefully a trip out want have me all disaccosiated (sp). Does that happen to anyone else?

If I have to iron I just do the front and wear my jacket / cardio over it :p;)

Onwards and upwards ladies and gents x

Please may I post, not to offer anything useful, but to say thank you to pollyanna and all the contributors. This is a thread that I am going to have to take from as opposed to contribute to I'm afraid but already you're showing me how to cope when not fully fit.

I'm normally a very fit just turned 37 year old but this summer I have had an asthma dignosis, pleurisy twice, hospitalised with pneumonia with fluid on both lungs, pericarditis and now, just as I was recovering, I have a flu that is making me dizzy even just walking about.

I have a desire to mother, wife and homemake and not being able to is making me very down but I'm also aware of how it can all turn disaterous should I push myself. Here's to learning how to take it easy but still feeling useful. :)

Hiya Fuddle  Just letting people know they are not alone is a useful contribution :) It sounds like you really have been through it lately. I'm sending you a big virtual (((hug)))

I'll be honest with you, my entire DIY experience is limited to what I have done in this flat in the last two months, and I have a predictable timeline:
    1. I will see a project that looks good, cheap and easy on Pinterest.
    2. I will read several tutorials, and they will reassure me that this is definitely easy, and I can't possibly mess it up.
    3. I will ask the advice of friends, who, all being 'makers', will tell me that it is an easy beginners' project and I will have no problems.
    4. I will gather materials then procrastinate for days or weeks because actually, I might mess it up, and then I will have destroyed my lovely new flat forever.
    5. One day, motivation will come seemingly from nowhere (as today) and I will start the project. Because it's easy, right?
    6. I will make a minor mistake, have a meltdown, decide that I am a complete an utter failure in life, that whatever I have done wrong can never be fixed, and none of my friends will love me anymore.
    7. Eventually I calm down and realise that the worst case scenario is that I will have to scrape a bit of paint off and start again/fill holes and re-drill them/add lots of extra screws just to be on the safe side. So there is, in fact, no problem. I will then carry on with the project.
    8. Eventually I will finish the project, but get annoyed with myself every time someone compliments it because I know THE AWFUL TRUTH that it isn't PERFECT!
    9. At some point I will be with one of my 'maker' friends while they work on a similar project, and they will make an even bigger mistake. They will simply shrug, fix whatever it was they messed up without comment, and carry on. I will tell myself that is how I should deal with things.
    10. So I get a little bit of confidence back and head back to Pinterest looking for another DIY project...

And that is the story of my life :o :rotfl: Of course I can laugh afterwards, but it isn't funny at the time. I am starting to get a bit more confident now because the rational part of me knows that there is not much that can't be fixed if I mess it up, but the second I do mess up I stop listening to that rational voice. But my friend keeps telling me the only way to get confidence is to try, and he is right. You try it, you make a mistake, you bodge it, then you learn and get better at it. Making a mistake might dent your confidence but fixing the mistake makes your confidence grow more than if you never made it, because next time you know that you can handle it even if things go a little pear shaped.

Anyway, hopefully my paint is ready for another coat. Fingers crossed I haven't messed this project up yet!
  • Larumbelle, quick post before I start cooking, but that was a lovely reply, I'm still at point 3, but have a little hope now! Xx
  • I have been trying to school my mind with the following mantras:

    - Good enough is good enough

    - Something is better than nothing

The older I get the more I realise that what I want may not be what I get. Sometimes it means that I change or move my goals and that can be hard.

My diary has helped identify things that help or hinder me. Yes it does take time but it has helped a lot too. I have also amended my menu plans so they are easier to use and identify meals for those difficult days.

Have a peaceful evening and weekend
    Pauline
