Hi Pollyanna yes Cookie is here; and she's settling in beautifully. There's always a little uncertainty with a new guest; and Cookie was only adopted into her forever-home last September, too! But she's a lovely girl, very affectionate. I find that's the case with Staffies though - what they want most in the world is to be loved.
Sympathy re the sciatic pain - any change in the weather sparks me off. Annoying, isn't it?

Cookie sounds a love, enjoy the time with her. Fingers crossed you feel a bit better soon.
I thought I was doing so well by ordering slate table mats and coasters as well as table linen in the sales online but forgot that once it arrived I would have to unpack it  Still better and cheaper than schlepping round the shops. Cream crackered now and having to sit down. Hall is full of boxes needing to be flattened and recycled.
A casserole is in the oven so I don't have to keep standing and stirring things and sitting down with a cold soft drink.Just managed to rescue the washing as torrential rain started.
So glad I treated myself to a light hand held vac so can do a quick tidy if anyone expected.
Hugs to all. (virtual)"This site is addictive!"

Just a quick update to say I received word today that my Ill Health Retirement application is going through without me having to go through yet another medical assessment, for once our Scheme Medical Advisers have recognised that Specialists might just know what they are talking about. The downside is that the scheme isn't as good as it was a few years ago but I'm not complaining just very relieved to be able to access what I already have in my pension pot without it being reduced for leaving early:D. Fingers crossed it all goes through without too many hitches....0

That's such good news caronc . It must be such a relief after waiting so long .
I've popped in to try to find a date from one of my posts to check something with one of the main hospitals . Random fact for today - six months ago we were all discussing the storm and Mar had snow!
Today is hot and humid yet again and it's strange to think back to that time now.
LW Did all go well with the Dr and the Optician? Do you do that six monthly? You were doing them at the time near the storm . You're right about the sciatica and humidity . I thought it was over and it came back for a second go . When I went out last Friday I was sort of leaning on random fixtures and fitting in various shops in an attempt to stay upright .
I had to go out again that evening which is something that I avoid as much as possible and it pretty well flared everything again .
At least I'm now able to sit down now , it's tiring standing and randomly leaning on things :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Hope your cat is doing ok Wednesday . I live in a quiet area but would move gladly to a property with smaller gardens and a better layout . Needing to stay with our Doctor stops that happening and he's worth the sacrifice .
Elona You have things so organised nowadays . I think a number of us on the threads owe thanks to Kittie for her brave thread which over time addressed many issues that can make us all mindful of ways to prepare for different scenarios and future proofing as much as possible . Hope you're enjoying the library work, that was my hoped for future until Mum intervened .
Best wishes to all posters and those who read . if you lurk don't be afraid to wave hello , we are a friendly bunch .
So maddie , Tink , Prinzess ( and her dear mum) Cranky & The House Troll and everyone else , hope all is well .
While we're talking good news . DD will finally have her second US Guided Barbotage in 4 weeks time . A lot later than should have been but needed to be done by the Specialist rather than another Dr .Things seem to be sorting nicely at the moment and hopefully will be the same for all here .
Sleep tight all
polly x
Almost forgot hope you're ok LL and also WCS if you get to read . Still in my thoughts .It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

Optician was a bit of a nightmare - they couldn't fit my wheelchair in front of the puff-air-in-your-eyes machine, and they've changed how they do another of the tests, but the upshot is my eyes haven't changed enough for new specs (thankfully) so that's that over for another 12 months.
I need to source a coccyx cut-out cushion with a waterproof cover for the mobility buggy; I was out on it for an extended time on Saturday and my poor tailbone hasn't let me here the last of it since!
Here's to some pain-free days, everyone. :beer:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Always best to get out of dodge as fast as possible LW .
Good news about the glasses but why do they keep changing things? DD gets comfortable with one way and then things change again .
That cushion is a bit of a tongue twister , will you be looking online? I wouldn't fancy repeating that over and over in proper shops . Memory is bad enough already , I'd have to write it down and probably forget to take the piece of paper with me . Images of drawing pictures on random bits of paper come to mind .
Hope your day goes well . I'm waiting for a delivery which is well past it's eta .

Hi polly.....yes still reading, sorry not posted. No real news.
I had a nice time staying with my friend for a few days and since coming home I have been very busy finishing some decorating, thankfully it's all done now.
For my sins, as well as IBS, Fibro etc. I also suffer from "painters colic" despite only using water based paints. Plus I had to re-oil the kitchen worktops. I left the windows and doors open but I still had a couple of days when the fumes made me feel really sick and triggered a vicious IBS attack.
Then, to make matters worse, due to circumstances beyond my control, I ended up eating wheat and potatoes a bit too often this week so I have been in quite a Lot of fibro pain and discomfort since.
I am ok with the odd transgression but if, like this last week, I eat incorrectly for a few days in succession then I'm in big trouble. So tomorrow it's back on to the paleo to get things under control again.
Hard as it is sometimes I just have to accept paleo as a way of life, not a short term fix. It's fine when I am cooking for myself but when I am eating food that others have prepared for me it can be very difficult.
I don't want to behave like a spoilt princess and refuse their food so I eat what I'm given. This is fine for a day or so but any longer and the "forbidden" foods cause havoc.
It's actually quite a problem because society in general just doesn't really understand the links between food and health. Even the medical profession don't get it half the time. Nutrition just seems like a dirty word.
If I was a coeliac people would understand that gluten is a no no but because it's IBS and fibro many people just don't make the connection between food and illness. When I tell people I can't eat any grains or starchy carbs I can see that a lot of them just don't believe me and they think I am just jumping on some fashionable celebrity diet bandwagon.
Mention that I am also best avoiding anything from the nightshade family and I can see they think I need certifying.:rotfl: So, rather than be a pIta I just keep schtum. And yet, it is so easy to get it right because I don't require anything fancy. An omelette would do.
Yes I am an omnivore so that I can get sufficient primary protein but even I don't always eat meat every day. Vegetarian dishes don't have to rely on starchy carbs to "fill you up" .....and there's more to veggie food that bloody pasta and rice. :rotfl:
In a restaurant I can simply order a portion of primary protein (meat or fish) and then vegetables or salad and there's no harm done. But the average "trendy" cafes etc are another matter. It's either bread, pasta or jacket potatoes.....so I either have to eat the wretched stuff or go hungry.
At least if I go into an old fashioned greasy spoon I can stoke up on bacon and eggs. Thank goodness for the cafes that still offer an "all day breakfast". They are my go to lifesaver when there's nothing else suitable on the menu.
Today My DIL took me out for a proper English Afternoon Tea. Her treat. What could I say......it was generous, loving and kind. But oh my, after the last week or so of "forbidden foods" I am now suffering from a serious wheat overload.:rotfl:
I think you are right about the humidity too. The weather certainly affects my fibro. Keeping warm enough is a problem for my muscles and joints, when it's cold and damp then I seize up. I'm like the tin man......but I too have also found the humidity a bit tricky.0 -
Good morning.
Well after a poor nights sleep, I have just weighed myself.
After just a week or so of eating incorrectly I have put on 4lbs in a week.
So annoying. Memo to self......must do better.;).
Looking on the bright side - the sky looks clear and bright so hopefully a nice day today.
Hope you all have a good day.0 -
Hi everyone, I hope you are all okay.xxx
I had to put my cat to sleep as she was very ill. It's the second time in 3 months that I have had to do this as another of my cats went downhill and had to be pts too.:(:(:( I feel very sad about it, but we are just trying to carry on as usual.
I went to see my GP as the Amitriptyline wasn't working as it should be and I kept jolting painfully in my sleep as a side effect. He told me to stay away from it and not take the rest of my supply. He has put me on Pregabalin instead. He said it works for anxiety disorder too. I did get quite a good sleep last night and wasn't jolting so that is something at least!
I'm just reading up on fibromyalgia now. My GP did also say he could refer me to a sleep clinic, my psychologist said this to me years ago, but I didn't try it. I have to see my GP again in a few weeks to see how I am on the new med so I might say I would like to go to a sleep clinic.
I see that there are pain management courses you can go on so I might ask about that too.
Does anyone on here have any experience of sleep clinics or pain courses?0
