VirginMedia upgrade problems

Hi,
I am currently paying VM for 100Mbps and it worked very well until recently. Speed now fluctuates wildly through the day. It often is down to under 10Mpbs, so thats less than 10% of what I'm paying for.
I've called VM and they tell me its contention caused by some upgrade work. The work is in progress and the next review date is 16th Nov. Thats the review date not fix date, so it might not even be back to normal by then. I asked for compensation and was told that some will be applied, but I dont know how much.
I would have expected network upgrades would happen without affecting my service, and then we have a short outage to switch. Even a week or two being slow would be fine, but they are saying it wont be reviewed for ever 2 months! I could even live with that if the reduction in speed was not so drastic.
Is there anything else I can do apart from just keep complaining or leaving VM? If I find NOWTV or Amazon video is affected, will they pay compensation for that?
I am not the only one, a quick look at the VM forums and there are loads of people with the same story as me.

Same problem; been that way since June 2015. Customer services admit they don't know when it will be fixed; £10 credit per month or cancel.
Seems they oversold their product and can't provide performance
