    Elsien

You've described almost perfectly our last visit to vets.

Beagle was perfectly behaved in the waiting room but once we got into the treatment room it was a different story.

Like Gitdog, Beagle sat in a corner and I explained to the vet that whilst I appreciated he had to do his annual checkup could he do it after the injections as Beagle got so wound up that if he did it in the normal way giving the injections would be impossible.

The vet agreed to do this , prepared everything so there was no mucking about, but Beagle knew something was up and backed even further into the corner starting to do his best Elvis impression.

Beagle was tempted by a treat to come out of the corner far enough for the vet to give him his injection but as you say the kennel cough vaccine was a totally different story .....cue me the vet and Beagle taking part in a tag team wrestling match. finally got to administer the vaccine only when a vetinary nurse joined in.

Beagle didn't get his check up afterwards - the vet was too busy wiping the sweat from his brow!

If anyone knows of how I can avoid this next year I'd be very grateful!

Having discussed this with my trainer, they do a handling class which uses the techniques used for zoo animals which I'm going to sign up to - the thought of how we're going to manage if he ever needs his temperature taken fills me with dread.
I don't have the details as yet, but have been told to google the bucket game for a rough idea.
No idea when the next course is but I'm sure there'll be a Gitdog's guide in due course. However it goes. It mentions stopping when the dog disengages, but says nowt about when an overenthusiastic Gitdog rams his head in the bucket and won't come out. Not that I'm pre-judging, of course.

    Love it!

Hey, at least you didn't have the indignity of having a dog weeing all over the reception and surgery floor!

What you might consider is asking the nurse or receptionist to take him in for you next time- and leave you outside.
My old boy was a terror and it took 4 of us (vet, nurse, receptionist & myself!) holding him to get an injection - he even managed to wee in the vet's face he was so incensed. After that he went in alone and was as good as gold...... When the vet changed and I said what had happened they hardly believed it, he was as good as gold (on his ownsome!)

He was a "character".... not for nothing known as Billy B....... Life is much easier with my new trailie boy
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
